In my attempts to be more commited to couponing I am wondering if it is feasible to pick up a Sunday paper each week? Sometimes I hear that there are weeks there aren't any coupons, so I guess my question is how do you know which weeks are worth buying the paper? TIA

There are (usually) no coupons the Sunday before a holiday (or if the holiday falls on Sunday). I say "usually" because once in a blue blue moon there will a teeny tiny skinny insert that day.

I tend to pick up 2 papers every week, sometimes 3. Today I spent $5.25 on 3 newspapers, which I found many coupons that I used (later in the day) at CVS. I spent $5.25 on thepapers, but had $9.50 worth of coupons. That's not countng what else I saw for coupons that I just won't use right away.

I can tell when a newspaper is thick, there are a few inserts - today each paper had 3-4.

But the general rule is, the Sunday before a holiday there are no coupons.

I am a couponer and I say it is worth your while to get the paper but as CT states usually the Sunday before a holiday there are rarely coupons.

I actually get more coupons from the Internet than I do from the Sunday paper.

Default coupons...

sunday paper today had three inserts of coupons(7-31-2011)

most were for cosmetics and the like. think i found two that i would actually use.

Internet had much more to choose from. the best time to look is the first of the month, that's when the manufacturers post coupons for that month and maybe some for the beginning of the next month(expiration dates)

i remember comeing across a website that had a calendar of when the newspaper inserts would be available but can't remember now what thename of it was. try a google search for "coupon inserts schedule" maybe.

I find more coupons by accident on the internet than on purpose

you can also look for specific items, which in turn will bring you to th manufacturers website. most will require that you log in, in order to access coupons if available. at least that has been my experience...

Considering that most Sunday papers cost anywhere from $3-5, I wouldn't consider it a very frugal investment. Unless, week in and week out, you routinely save well over $5 a week by using coupons found in the newspaper.

Because we use the newspapers as packing material for shipping in our business, we get 7 day delivery for $15 a month.

Tonight, we went to Target to use up the best of the coupons that were expiring today. Our bill - almost entirely personal care and laundry products - was $111 before coupons, $64 after, and we were also handed 2 $5 gift cards. So, about half price. We won't have to buy much of that stuff for a while, and I won't buy it unless it's half price between sale & coupon.
