Just a leetle compulsive...poor guy, no wonder his marriage ended due to his obsession. He needs a psychologist, not a financial planner.
And if all he eats are microwave burritos and fast-food dollar-menu items, he may not make it to retirement anyway. Even if he does eat a grape once in a while....

He had never eaten a grape in his life.
Food is fuel for the body and should be eaten for nutrition to be healthy. What he is eating is going to cause health issues which will end up costing him more later, i.e., diabetes, heart disease, etc.
i have seem documentaries about these type of people. they will save a large nest egg but will never get to the lifestyle of enjoying it. They get stuck in the same mind set. A therapist may help but never erase the life long habits.

The LA Times has been doing these interview/article/makeovers for decades, and I've never heard of anyone being the target for a crime because of it? If it ever happened, I'm sure it would make the news!

I think it's good to be smart about protecting yourself, but I don't think he's in any real danger.
Good for him. He is probably a Millionaire because he is so careful about money. We should learn something from this guy.
