As a transplant from the Upstate New York who works in Frederick, but lives in Hagerstown I'm interested in the opinion of those who live in Frederick and vice versa for those who live in Hagerstown.

I used to live in Frederick, but am from Cumberland, so my perspective is a little skewed. I think Frederick is best described as a suburb with "character." You still have a large transplant culture, but enough of a historic core and rural areas to gives the city a personality.

Hagerstown has always been "half in/half out" to me. Not far enough out to really be in the scenic mountains or be free of the commuter influence, but not close enough to have all the cool trendy gentrified shops and ethnic food options of Frederick. I did live in Frederick and found it tolerable, and Cumberland is my city. I don't think I would live in Hagerstown, not quite enough benefits from either "world" but the drawbacks of both.

We don't often make it to Hagerstown, mostly because there's no need to go. I've gone to Hagerstown for the outlet mall a couple times, and also to the MVA due to the shorter lines. Overall I have a good impression of Hagerstown, esp. their taste in NFL teams.

The proper term for residents of Frederick used to be Frednecks.

I much prefer Hagerstown outer areas to Frederick. Boonsboro is a lovely quaint town to live in. Same with Sharpsburg.

Yeah,a lot of people in Hagerstown are Steelers fans.Although this year since the Ravens sweeped the Steelers they've been pretty quiet.
