I'm wondering what the commute time would likely be during morning and evening rush hour between Coppell (home) and Fort Worth (work). Anyone have experience with this? Are there better times to leave to avoid the worst of the traffic?

I've done Grapevine to downtown FW, and it took 35-40 minutes on the average day. Bottlenecks are at the 121/114 interchange, 121/183 interchange, and 121/820 interchange. And then once you get off 121, Belknap Street can be a parking lot with the construction...

I used to live in Coppell and work in downtown FTW. The traffic itself is not bad because you're going the opposite direction of most people on 635, 121, and 183. If I left around 7:00am, I would make it to work by 7:35 or so. If I left around 7:15, I'd get there right at 8:00. It's not a bad drive, just a long one.

I'm also going to be moving to Coppell, TX from Milwaukee, WI next week and I may be working in South Ft. Worth. What would the commute on the way home from Ft. Worth back to Coppell look like if I were to be getting off at 5:00 p.m.?

I am resident of Coppell dont see that it is a problem . Also much of time you are going against the traffic. Unconfirmed what area of Fort Worth have you researched DART rail Coppell is close to many of these stops via Carrollton .

I used to drive from downtown FTW about 6 years ago, to Valley Ranch. Took about 45 minutes if I left work at 5pm. It will be longer from South Ft Worth but there may be creative routes. I'd research taking I-20 to 161N heading home. Just might be worth a try.......

I drive from the Northeast Mall (820/121/183) to Coppell/Valley Ranch on a daily basis. I take Highway 10 to DFW Airport to Rental Car Drive to 161 and I am at work in 30 - 45 minutes and I am going with traffic. I just know to avoid Airport Freeway and cut through the airport rather than hitting the 161/183 split. I've been doing this for 13 years but unfortunately my job is going away February 25th so who knows where I'll be commuting in the future. Would love to work in Downtown FW!!

@fwjeff--sorry to hear about your job--good luck with the job search--
my husband works at edge of Sundance in downtown and for the most part he likes it there so much better than when he worked in downtown Dallas...
plus he does not have the sun-in-eyes problem when driving

the issue of traffic on Airport Frwy is moot to me as far as "going with/against" traffic--
in morning commute time the freeway is busy BOTH ways through the MidCities--
there is big clog around the 114 ramp @ Central in Bedford both directions and around the 820 split going both ways in NRHills
I don't know why anyone says that "going east into Dallas" or "west into FTW" makes a big difference--the amount of traffic is busy both ways
and it stays busy --there are times when traffic backs up at the 114 hub at any time of the day in either direction--
traffic through Irving going into/out of Dallas flows but it is constant during the day
the 114/121 in Grapevine is absolutely the worst freeway in the area right now--

I went through DFW the other day because of the logjam around the 121/114 merge when I was coming back from Plano--
the roads' surfaces have been screwed up with the widening/resurfacing--difficult to see where your lane goes because they "wander" and paint is not that plentiful--lighting is horrible at night at well and think it is luck more than design that more accidents have not occurred since the construction is underway

good luck to anyone who drives that part of the corridor with regularity

the only freeway around here that does not have a lot of traffic during the day is the George Bush (north of the Airport Freeway) and maybe the west side of the 820 (simply because there is not a lot of reason for people to use it)

I have started using the Bush going to Plano the past year or so to see movies at the Angelika and unless there are lanes closed for construction it moves pretty quickly with minimal traffic--
and usually cars are moving at or above the speed limit (not true for other freeways where some cars persist in driving 45 mph)....there are also fewer large trucks using that freeway

I could not imagine going from south Fort Worth to Coppell each day. I Googled a similar route the other day for another poster, and Google said it was 45 minutes each way to downtown in traffic. I'd add another 15 minutes to south Fort Worth, which makes it an hour each way. Yikes! Just live in the Arlington Heights area, or south of downtown, and cut the commute!

Exactly!! Lots of nice neighborhoods in FW proper, Arlington Heights, Ridglea, TCU, Ryan Place, many many more.
