Hello and Happy New Year guys!
I hope I'm not going to bore you with another thread about relocation, I have read alot already, but you guys on here really do provide excellent detailed information ! I'M RELYING ON YOU!!

So here goes with some details...... We are English, husband is in the process of being offered a job in Irving (computing), accessibility to DFW airport needed (but not right next door).

Most important details... great schools needed (public), we have kids that would currently be in your 1st and 4th grade..... I think ! Very safe family friendly neighborhood. I like the idea of being able to get the bikes and cycle somewhere a bit scenic (so trees would be good) and be in walking distance of a nice downtown area (but also like peace and quite). Somewhere the kids still play out! Am I asking to much (you probably think I'm going a bit 'Trueman Show'... it's a Mum thing! lol) We currently live in a cul-de-sac and my kids play out all the time. It sounds like any area always has a short drive to a shopping mall? Unfortunately they are always needed when you have kids, that's my excuse anyway! I have a girl who's a tennis fanatic and a boy who's a soccer NUT!!

One of the people who interviewed my husband recommended Southlake (simply said huge houses, great schools). I know some people on here have there good and bad opinions on Southlake! We've been looking at houses on trulia upto $400,000 and quite frankly have been suprised what a fantastic choice there is. HP/UP keeps getting mentioned on here, but, I know that area is out of our price range and I do like the idea of having more space around me. Highland Village? Commute too bad?

Can someone please tell me about Intermediate schools?? I notice Carroll ISD have them and then go on to middle school. Are they more like elementary or middle school? Advantages/disadvantages? Other school districts don't have them...... bit confusing!!

We are hoping to visit in the new year as Texas is a place we've never had the pleasure to visit...... can't wait!! Can anyone recommend us a realtor, company haven't as yet.

YOUR OPINIONS AND HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED. Thankyou!

We have many excellent realtors who post here. They are the ones with the house icon next to their user name. People can send you a DM but cannot post a realtor' name here.

Southlake is very nice, and fits almost exactly what you need. I would also suggest strongly checking out Castle Hills (just N. of Carrollton, E of Lewisville) it's 25 min. from DFW in traffic using 121 (Sam Rayburn Tollway). It's a tad bit farther, but also fits nicely into what your looking for. Intermediate schools are middle schools-same name a little different principle. Most are 5-8th or 6-9th grades, so they encompass a larger range of students but are basically the same in principle as middle schools. I'm not sure how Carrollton does their school district.

I hope this helps, and even though a bit mature...Welcome to Texas.

I also think Realtor.com is a better site than Trulia, Trulia provides inaccurate value information which they pull from appraisal district information. Appraisals are very inconsistent and often just wrong. You will need a realtor. I know a couple of good ones and if you want to DM me I'll be happy to provide contact information. One of our forum participants, Rankin, is also a realtor and specializes in the area you are interested in.

Apart from neighborhoods immediately adjacent to Downtown Dallas, the city is a primarily suburban city. Let me suggest looking in two affordable neighborhoods of Dallas which also have what you are looking for.

Lakewood Elementary school zone in Dallas (75214 zip code)
Lakewood has beautiful homes on tree lined streets on the east side of the city of Dallas. It derives its name from White Rock Lake, which is a cyclers’ paradise with miles of trails for bicycle riders. Also on the shores of White Rock is the Dallas Arboretum. With views of the Dallas skyline over the tree tops and mansions around White Rock Lake, this is one of the most scenic areas in all of Dallas. It also has the Lakewood shopping center area, which is like a small downtown with restaurants, grocery stores, dry cleaners, live jazz music, and a theater. It is five miles east of downtown Dallas.

There are several pages of photos here:

M-Streets – Stonewall Jackson school zone (75206 zip code)
The M-Streets are just west of Lakewood. It offers closer access to the highways and DART rail. It has an excellent school for your children in addition to Lakewood. They both feed into the same junior high and high school. It is also close to Greenville Avenue, a popular street for restaurants.
