I registered my car in Florida. There are no inspections so I don't have a decal for my windshield for inspection (or registration). In NY I had decals for both. When I drive to NY will my car be legal without the decals?

It's not possible to get through to the NYS DMV. I do have an e-mail into them. They will "try to answer it in 5 business days". It was a pleasure to deal with the DMV in Cape Coral.

Little confused. Do you still have license / plates from NY? Or did you become a Florida resident?

If you have Florida tags, then you'd be considered out of state. No reason to have NY inspection tags.

Are you just visiting NY? How long will you be back there?

The reason I ask is because I think some state states want you get a temporary license if it's over 30 days or so.

I am now a resident of Florida for about 8 months a year, Fl tags and license. I"ll have to look into the temp license. Thanks.

Gosh no! If you are only there four months a year, you don't have to get temporary anything. You drive up there, and around there, with your Florida tags and no inspection stickers. The car is not registered in NY so why would the car be required to have an inspection? It is no longer considered a NY car. You spend the majority of your time in Florida. You have 30 days to get new tags if you are going to become a permanent resident. You are no longer a permanent resident of NY.

And by the way, a temporary license plate is only used while you wait for a permanent plate and it has nothing to do with this situation.

100% agree with Hiknapster. If you have a FL driver's license, there is no reason to do anything when you visit New York. Your registration should match the state in which you have a current driver's license.

Thank you for the replies. It feels strange not having any decals on my windshield after all these years. It is liberating though, not being forced to get an inspection every year, even if you have a brand new car.

Heck no, don't worry about it, I was in MA for 7 months, not once was I bothered about no sticker, you are registered in this state, they can't do anything, UNLESS it has window tint, that is an issue.... ask me how I know...LOL
