I've had best luck on Sanibel and Lover's Key state park; yet a lot depends on the winds and tides. One day a beach might be prime shelling, then a day later the same beach might be slim pickings.

Sanibel definitely has more variety of shells and I would say prettier shells. You can find shells on almost any beach along the Gulf Coast. I go to Venice and Englewood beach for sharks teeth. I have been to the beaches from Naples up to Sarasota. I would say that I have found the best shells at Sanibel and Marco Island beaches. I have found sand dollars on Sanibel and Lido Beach. Sanibel is called the Seashell Capital of The World. Venice is called the Shark Tooth Capital of the World. Have a great time whichever beach you go to.

If you are really into shells you need to go to The Shell Factory in Ft Myers.

typically sanibel is the best. The reason why sanibel is usually voted the top shelling beach is because most islands are shaped north to south. sanibel is east to west so it acts like a catchers mitt to the shells on the incoming tide. when the tide goes out it sometimes leaves Mounds of shells.

Marco Island is down by Naples. It worth the drive if you're going for shells

Wifey has had good luck at Blind Pass...........on the Sanibel side of the bridge. There is a sand bar just off shore that is exposed at low tide and it's really great on some days.

I agree that is the best place I have seen. it's usually not as busy there due to the current preventing people from swimming and a smaller parking lot
