Will be vacationing in the Fort Myers area next month and am planning on playing golf a couple of times. I live in snowy Iowa so the chance to play golf in the winter is exciting!

Just wondered if anyone could recommend any courses I could get on without paying big bucks. I saw two municipals (Eastwood & FM Country Club) and the public course Eagle Ridge. Their green fees seem reasonable and with the courses being 18 holes, par 72, I would expect to play an enjoyable and challenging round.

So can any local area golfers let me know how these play and if there are any other affordable 18 hole courses? I'm not interested in executive or par 3 courses, BTW. I get enough of those at home!

You should enjoy all 3 of those courses. FMCC is a Donald Ross design, so although it's not long it's a challenge. Eastwood was once a Golf Digest top 50 public course. The last couple times I played there it wasn't in great shape, but the lay out is great. Hopefully they've gotten back in great shape, I'd still recommend it. I've only played Eagle Ridge a couple of times, but it is nice. If you don't mind driving to neighbooring towns then Coral Oaks (in Cape Coral is also a former golf digest top 50), Westminster (in Lehigh Acres) and Magnolia Landing (in North Fort Myers) are all very nice for the $.
Have fun.

Thanks for the reviews! We are looking forward to some great golf and hope the weather warms up in Florida before we get there.

I will look up the other courses you recommended. It is nice to have a choice of courses to play on for vacation! I'll be sure to post comments on which ones we played and our thoughts on them for others to read.

Stoneybrook is in Estero, just south of Fort Myers, very near I-75. I admit I'm not a golfer, but I've lived in this area for a long time.
