Well, it seems as if moving to fort myers is not exactly a good idea. because i recently surfed a website called Moderator cut: linking to competitors sites is not allowed and compared fort myers to just about all other florida cities including miami, fort lauderdale, west palm beach, hollywood, tampa, orlando, opa locka, and davie. well, in 2005, it seems as if crime rate wise, only opa locka beat out fort myers on 4 or more out of 7 crime categories. (murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft, and grand theft auto.) also, i even wonder if drug runners have gotten smarter and are using airplanes these days to smuggle their drugs, especially into fort myers. anyone who has any comment on this, please come forward. (no flaming please!!!)

the 2006 numbers will come out in october. but all of the numbers are based on a per capita basis. i know ft myers is a rough place. or atleast in some parts. i would bet once the 2006 #'s come out, orlando will be the worst.

isn't per capita more important than actual numbers? wait a minute... is anyone sure if crime indicies are accurate or over exadurated? because the main website shows the town of crystal river with a crime index of 667.8, including a nearly 900 per capita rate of assault, yet during a 4 day trip there, i spent a total of like 15 or 20 hours hiking through crystal river and encountered absolutely nothing crimewise.

yeah, it's weird. a small town with a few incidents can spike the crime index. but a lot of crime in a big city doesnt have near the affect b/c the population is so much greater.
