Not sure. Looks like the main difference is that one is an isolated town (PS) and the other is not (FC). Population of 2K vs population of 150K. Appear to be 2 very different types of cities/towns. Honestly I have never heard of Pagosa Springs till just now, just my take after visiting the PS website, citydata, and google. Maybe someone else on the board has...?

Fort Collins is a front range college town. It is also family oriented and less expensive than Pagosa Springs.
Pagosa Springs is starting to get pricey as people find out about it. It is a great place to golf in the summer. Much more resort type of a town in the mountains. I'm sure it will grow by leaps and bounds soon! I is a completely different world and, more isolated as someone else mentioned. It is beautiful. Better to be a very outdoorsey type of person all year long!

Very very different from one another, these two towns!
