At least I would hope that is why you chose to go to school.
Agreed! um, that's kind of the idea of college to is sticking to those books. Now ME? Um, well,

My nephew graduated from there as well. Enjoyed his time there.

Default It's Greeley, not Paris

The coffee shop in Greeley Mall closed, so it couldn't have been that great. Besides, the mall itself is pretty dead. Vegaspilgrim is right, Greeley itself is pretty dead at night.

I don’t know about Peace Pit, but I thought Dickey’s BBQ was pretty good.

The parks in Greeley are not “awesome.” One is okay, some are average, a few are pitiful. I did see a fox carrying a dead bird to its cubs in one though, and that was pretty cool.

The bus system can be called great only by someone who never lived where the bus system really is great. I have, and the bus system in Greeley is not great. It’s rather poor in comparison to the truly great.

I lived next to cattle years ago, and never really got to appreciate the smell. I got used to it, but we never said it didn’t matter. It stunk. Sometimes the air smells bad in Greeley. It is so that bad, but you just learn to live with it or move.

Greeley is top heavy and dull of hearing. The city probably has more citizens committees than any other town in Colorado. They think that’s a good thing, people are involved. I agree that it is good for people in a community to be involved in planning and doing. The problem I see is that the committees report to one or another city government official or agency. Then that official takes the committee’s recommendations to City Hall or some city department. And if the recommendation is accepted, then the City votes for money to pay for whatever it is. And if the City doesn’t have enough money for it (it won’t), it raises a tax somewhere. I genuine citizens committee would be a group of people who see that something needs done, and they do it themselves without devising a new tax to pay the city to do it. We do have a volunteer flower and garden club that does free gardening at various sites around town. I admire them. They aren’t asking the government to give them money. They are doing it the old fashioned Nike way – “just do it!”

I didn’t sign up when the others did, and I am not part of their program to systematically respond to posts critical of Greeley. However, I, too, think UNC is a great or at least a good university, in the context of what it offers. I have taken a number of classes there, and have attended a number of programs and presentations. I am pleased with what they offer. Of course, if it was their less than open-minded biology professors and their cliché-driven political speakers, that I had to listen to, then I might not be pleased.

Anything to do in Greeley? Ya! Drive to Fort Collins or Denver like everyone else does for the night life and fun events. At one time Greeley had a City Bus that took you to Fort Collins, and Loveland for shopping and night life. UNC is a great school and has a great nick name, the suit case college/university students go to school M-F and pack their suit cases and leave town friday night returning monday morning for classes..

Maybe things have changed over the years, but for many years there were parties all weekend throughout the college area. This whole idea you have to go to a bar to pay 1000% mark up for drinks was foreign to us, we had a great time without leaving a 10 block radius.

That said there is no way in hell I would move to that area now that I am an actual adult.

Being in Greeley, you should become fanatically obsessed with your studies as that will be the only activity you will find out there.

Greeley is a VERY HOT spot for guys that are looking!

For those in Greeley that need some excitement... Drive 25 miles north and "Watch Nunn Grow!" http://www.nunncolorado.com/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/emma_ja...n/photostream/
(I've been watching for over 50 yrs... very exciting). Too bad Rockport has closed up, and even Carr, CO no longer has a store.

There are still plenty of UFO sightings out in the Pawnee Grass lands, which is pretty near-by Greeley.

I attended @ Greeley via a 'daily' commute from much better turf.

I know it used to be, especially when we would drive over from Fort Collins for the annual Strip Show.

The VFW would bring a bunch of "professional women" from Laramie and turn the hall into a casino with all types of gambling, hookers in the back, and a strip show.

Back then, gambling was illegal everywhere in the U.S except Nevada, and the topless bar and strip club hadn't been invented. Burlesgue Shows were around, but they were like going to the opera compared to these shows.

And there were the hookers from Laramie.

As a poor student all I had was enough money to get in, but I vowed that next year I would save up and be able to "do it all".

Others have given some great thoughts and I just wanted to add a few. I got my first undergrad degree from UNC and I thought it was fine. People from northern Colorado will say terrible things and brag about other towns. Admittedly Fort Collins has much more to do but that doesn't make Greeley bad. Oh and I commute to Greeley from Fort Collins for work and it takes me 35 minutes. So just "under an hour" is bs

Pros:
*cheap! I found several places throughout my time there that cost $350 all inclusive. I had roommates
*there are plenty of stores and things to buy. The mall isn't that great but new restaurants and shops are going up on center place
*they are revitalizing the downtown
*Patrick's is an awesome pub bar and Tues nights are fun. Zoe's is open til midnight and has very cheap coffee (nonprofit), the Kress is awesome. You can grab a table in the theater and eat and drink alcohol

Cons:
*high crime. Yeah they're not kidding. There was a drive by shooting at Walmart at 3 pm and everyone just went about their day. You just have to be careful though and it'll be fine
*smell can be bad but really on some days and some parts of town
*some decent restaurants but not a wide variety

Anyway I had fun living there but I don't party a lot. The people are generally pretty nice.
