I am an elementary teacher and looking into moving to the Ft. Collins area. Any info on how easy/difficult it is to come by a teaching position? Are schools hurting for new hires or is there an overabundance of teachers since it is a college town with lots of recent graduates?

I am in the same boat as you! I just started teaching this year in Grand Junction, CO, but would love to relocate to Ft. Collins. However, I have a feeling after looking at their website this spring/summer, that there are not many open teaching jobs available. Ft. Collins is home to Colorado State University, and Greeley, which is only about 40 minutes away, is home to the University of Northern Colorado. Both are teaching schools. I would love to hear what others opinions are about finding a teaching job in Ft. Fun.

I know that they just built a brand new school in Timnath and in Wellington. Seems like new schools are really popping up quickly. I would not be suprised if Severance started building a school soon, as that town has grown tremendously in the past couple of years. You can check out poudre school district in Fort Collins and Thompson Valley school district in Loveland. Also check with the schools I mentioned. Good Luck to you.

Fort Collins can be pretty competitive when it comes to teaching jobs, but they are available. Also, they just opened a new elementary this year, and will be opening another one next year. That means that there will be jobs. Furthermore, the district likes to hire people with experience. That means it could be tough for the recent grads, but better for you. And, if you happen to have a special ed. certification, you can find a job much more easily.

I am looking to move to Ft Collins area. I have 12 years of experience in bilingual and gifted and am certified from first to eighth. Do you think I have a chance at competing in Colorado? Thanks for your advice.

Is the market equally as saturated for high school teaching positions? Specifically, history/social studies?
