Thanks! Thats what I was thinking. The airbag suspension is about the only really big issues that plagued these, aside from that potential oil burning issue. He said at this point, it uses very little.

As Mitch said, I was referring to the airbag suspension, not the safety airbgs. Sorry, I should have been more clear.

Outside of the air suspension, these seem to be pretty trouble-free cars, if it burns a quart of oil every 3000 miles or so I'm inclined to say "who cares?" - I mean compare the cost of a couple quarts of oil to the gas you will burn in 3000 miles - the oil cost is lost in the "grass".

TS, it is somewhat of a "Grampa-mobile" though, not sure why you would want it. The fun to drive factor would not be all that high IMHO.

But for $1500 you can't go too far wrong. If you take good care of it, you can probably get most of your money back if you want to sell it.
Thats right Mitch... I was referring to the suspension airbags.

Yeah, its an old mans (or womans) car, but I have always liked the looks of these myself and really like the cloud-soft ride. Ever since I rode in my uncles 1997 TC, I have wanted one, but I like the look of the 1990-92 the best.

I had an 86 Crown Vic with the 5.0. It's body was badlky beaten up. Took it from Detroit to DC and back (1997) and it got roughly 26 mpg both ways. i was amazed. Your f250 has more weight, and more drag, so it gets less. Don't know about the GTO.

I knew I was missing something

If condition is ok for the price, go for it, it may be pretty good experience. I used to have '83 Chrysler 5th Ave. That was nice ride, if you are not "pilot", but rather settled(lazy) experienced guy

my F250 has 4.11 gearing and is running 35" tires which is why it eats so much fuel on the freeway and I find the the 5.0 @ 185HP and 285ft-lbs of torque to underpowered in the F250 I wish I had the 5.8 because the bigger motor would get better MPG because I would have more bottom end torque not have to give it as much gas to get it moving.

Update - I missed out on that 1992 Town Car... I had some things to fix on my Lexus before I could sell it... now it will be sold next week.

I have found a few Town Cars locally... but the 1990-94s are harder to find it seems than the 1995-97 models.

I have kinda narrowed it down to two... one is a 1990 Town Car base sedan (however, it does have the digital dash and alloy wheels option) white with red cloth interior), with 167K miles. It has the 5.0L. Owner said it dont smoke or burn oil... air suspension was fine. I can get it for $2000, MAYBE as low as $1800. Its about 110 miles from here though.

The other is a 1993 Town Car Signature series - white with red leather interior, with 149K miles... it has the 4.6L. Owner said he changes the oil every 3000 and has to add a quart of oil between changes... pretty common for the 1991-94 4.6L from what I have researched. It also has had the factory air suspension replaced at the dealer with OEM air springs and compressor... now that had to have been alot of $$$$! Owner is asking $1800... hoping I can get it for about $1600-1700.

Now the 1993 is a newer car... less miles and has more options like leather and the passenger side airbag... also has had the air suspension replaced and is closer. This car also has all service records and the current owner is the second owner and has owned it since 44K miles. It also has a new battery, alternator, starter, suspension, etc.

I like the cloth interior though of the 1990 and it has the 5.0L, which I know is a good engine, but wondering how much better it is than the 4.6L?

I know some of the 1991-94 4.6L had some oil usage issues, but what about the 5.0L in the 1990 model? Seems like the 5.0L in the older Mustangs, Crown Victorias, Grand Marquis, etc didnt have that issue, but not sure if I should discount a 1991-94 model because of this.

I guess I am hoping someone here has owned both or at least one 1990-94 Town Car and can chime in.

Both of these cars are in the same physical condition. Original paint is nice, no damage, nice interiors, etc.

I am leaning more toward the 1993... what do you think?

Had also found a 1996 for $1800, local and in nice condition... it was on craigslist, but the owner wont respond... perhaps its sold.

I am not 100% positive, will need to check if you are interested, there may be 1993 or 1994 Lincoln Town Car with 60,000(?) miles in Memphis(White Station area, if you are familiar). I know NOTHING about condition though, so you will need to check it from bumper to bumper.

If I would have know for sure that condition of this car is good or perfect, I would say it is just 1 or 2 day max round trip from you and you could use uship.com if you do not want drive. I was offered this car several years ago, but again I do not know how it has been used since then.

If you get a Town car, do not get one older than 1991. They do not have a real 5.0 in it. They actually have a detuned version of the 5.0. Unlike the Mustang that has 225 horsepower, the Town car only had 150 and was WAY heavier. 150 horsepower in a car that weighs over 4,000 pounds just doesn't work. 1991 and up had the 4.6 which had a much more reasonable 190 horsepower which gave it a sub 10 second 0-60 time.
