I hate my Cuisinart. It started rusting and leaking two weeks after I bought it. It's a piece of junk.

I've had many, including Mr. Coffee. One word:

MELITTA.

I'm on my 2nd Melitta, and i'm pretty confident that this one will be as durable as the 1st one i had many years ago. The pretty $150(+) stainless steel queasy fart lasted me maybe 3 years. The Bunn's were defective right out of the box, both times. The Delonghi lasted ~ 2 years. The sleek $45 Mr. Coffee worked great..............until it completely went dead at just 13 months old.
I considered a Kuerig, but really, how much for a machine that heats water, and pours it over tea/coffee? And the cups? Forget it.

I do fine with a tea kettle to heat water, and make tea. While the water heats, I have time to putter in the kitchen, rinse the sink, unload the dishwasher...

We have an old Mr. Coffee, works fine. When it breaks, I will go to Wal Mart and get another one.
My last Mr. Coffee lasted ten years. I bought a new one a few months ago at Walmart. I will say this new one makes super HOT coffee! And takes less than ten minutes to brew an entire pot. Maybe the other one was just getting to old but the first sip from the new one about burned my lips off! lol I see a LOT of Kuerigs and Bunns come through my register every day, and especially as Christmas gifts, but I just can't spend that kind of money. Well, I suppose I could but I won't.

That's me. I have looked at the Kuerigs umpteen times and just keep buying coffee machines at Wal-Mart. I splurged on the one I have now. It's a Cuisinart 2-cupper. Red. I had to have red. Paid, I think $29 at Amazon, which was too much, but I was buying a bunch of other stuff and in a hurry.

K-Cups are too expensive, and if you're going to pack your own, might as well get a regular maker.

ive been looking into those single serve coffee makers that use the ground coffee instead of k cups. im not sure what people pay per ounce of coffee, but looking around it looks like $8 a pound isnt unusual. i think low may be like 6. i also tried to find out how much you use per cup and its 1oz or more. so if you get 16 cups in 1 pound that you pay $8 for, thats about 50 cents a cup. i bought a bunch of k cups at costco for around 37 cents a cup.

now, im guessing the ratio is a little better when you are making a 12 cup pot but im not sure how much better. i havent looked to find out how many ounces of ground coffee you use for a 12 cup pot. i guess thats next.

It depends on the coffee of course, but generally ~1.5 ounces works for most people. An Arbuckles pouch(1.3) is insufficient, an Archer Farms pouch(1.75) more than sufficient, IMHO.

Well, I only bought the Bunn single server My Cafe for flavored coffee or tea, like in the afternoon or evenings (I love treating myself to something special like that at the end of a day - hey, it beats pouring myself a stiff drink!). I still am using my FABULOUS Bunn 12 cup coffee maker in the mornings (12 cups of piping hot coffee in three minutes!). And no, I don't drink twelve cups of coffee but I will drink half a pot just about every morning. And I like having it when I have company, which is pretty often.

But so far (day 2) I am LOVING this single serve Bunn brewer. I am about to make myself a cup of chai latte right this minute!

I like every cup to be fresh brewed and there is only me in the house. Keurigs Are nice but really way over priced. Last winter I got myself this little $17.99 single cup coffee maker and have been very happy with it.

The secret is to do what we did - get a Keurig as a gift.
