I had the Cuisinart grind and brew and it was great. I especially loved the thermal carafe. I replaced it with the Cuisinart that has the dispenser in it and no carafe and really like the setup, but miss the thermal keeping the coffee hot for hours without a burner plate.
they seriously need to morph them together
I, too, have the Cuisinart G&B thermal. It's my 2nd Cuisinart G&B...when it dies, I will get the newest version.
I use straight vinegar to clean the machine. To clean the thermos, I use denture tablets, about 4 at a time. When it gets really bad, I use Oxyclean (it works wonders!)
hmm, one reason I got rid of it was the build up of brown gunk inside the thermos (that's a much better word than carafe). Wish I would've known that trick before.. This is the one I have now. It cleans a lot easier and is more convenient to dispense, but doesn't do a good job of keeping the coffee hot. I got it for only $80 by using a bunch of promotions and coupons though
My last coffee maker was a $20 Mr. Coffee. It lasted 6 years using tap water. It died last month, so I bought a $50 Mr. Coffee (complete with water filter, and nice backlit LCD timer/clock) and it died the second day. I exchaged it for another of the same model and so far so good.
I'm actually wondering why coffee elsewhere tastes so much better than at home. I've tried all sorts of different coffees, using less/more coffee, even different brew temps (my new coffee pot allows this), but the coffee at home is still only so-so. Not bad, but not great either.
I'll admit: I've been having a torrid love affair with my Le Cube Nespresso Machine (from Williams-Sonoma) for about 6 mo's now. It's FANTASTIC.
Sure, I'd like a greater variety of coffee choices, but the quality of the taste is better than any 'pod' system out there.
You're going to pay about $500, but it's all the quality of a Jura machine at half the cost. If you need a serious caffeine fix, this is your machine.
$500? You got robbed! We bought one for our friends' wedding for half the price. They loved ours (not the cube) so much a few couples pitched in to get them one. Then some of those friends were so sold they bought one themselves.
We got ours in CH so paid a lot less, but their's we ordered from the website. And there are a TON of coffee choices. And my husband made this for it -

The secret is Dunkin' Donuts whole bean coffee, freshly ground.
My sister-in-law used to make the meanest cup of coffee around with her little $10 Mr. Coffeemaker. Her trick was she put a sprinkle of salt in with the grounds prior to brewing. I don't have a clue what that does, but her coffee was awesome. Now that I have a GE stainless steel maker, with a built-in grinder, I put her to shame, without the pinch of salt. It's all about the Dunkin'.
Help-These things don't last long. And we do clean with vinegar once in a while. I don't drink it much but husband has to have it daily. What brand have you been happy with-doesn't need to be large. Thanks
I haven't been happy with one in particular, but I'm gonna urge you to avoid the Hamilton Beach BrewStation, and here is why: It sucks.
