Oh, rutabaga! We eat them a lot in the winter. They helped keep our ancestors alive and healthy upon their arrival to the prairie. They keep so well. Hardly anyone knows what they are these days.

They are especially good peeled, boiled and mashed with butter, salt and pepper. Bet they'd be good roasted too.

Tonight DH wanted meat and potatoes so I know he's feeling better. I made a large elk burger meatloaf and a new potato recipe. You peel and slice the tomatoes and stack them on the their sides in a casserole and pour a sauce of cream, salt, pepper and garlic over them and bake them.

Then our daughter showed up with a "delivery." Potato wild rice soup with bacon, chicken almond stir fry, turkey and dumplings, and a new recipe for tomato basil soup with Russian orange tomatoes in it. What a bounty!

Emptying out the fridge before a trip and we found enough for a junkyard buffet. Some yellow rice & black beans, burger hash, & turnip greens.... Plenty of iced peach tea.

This past week was hectic. We are dog sitting, and my son and family came for a few days, and two older grandsons too. We had steaks on the grill, roasted baby potatoes and fresh green beans. Pumpkin roll and Key lime pie.

Another night, we got Chinese carry out, and last night, after everyone was gone, we had sloppy joes and several cocktails. We love having them come, and we love seeing them go.

A special blend of gold potatoes, ham, onion, & a blend of cheeses topped with Parmesan that will toasted in a casserole. Add something green on the side with an unending glass of peach tea.. After 57 years this old cook has proven quite reliable...

I'm copying. But I am going to use cream of chicken soup, in a pillsbury recipe. I need to clear out my pantry of some of this stuff.
