Wow, just came from the store. Butter was at 4.49 a pound. That is insane. Cheese is getting crazy expensive as well. An 8 oz. block of generic cheddar was over five dollars. What the heck is going on?
Will American shoppers soon be saying, "I can't believe I can't afford butter?" Butter prices hit a record high on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange this week, and with the levels of the stuff in storage down 42% over this time last year, "Americans are about to be reminded that butter is a luxury," according to Quartz. Butter's price has surged 62% this year, notes Bloomberg, and demand keeps going up: US consumption of the commodity has reached its highest level in 40 years as consumers turn toward natural foods instead of processed ones like margarine.
even the off shoots, like "I can't believe it isn't butter" is out of sight. We did get a lb of butter last week for about $3.29 I think. Some brands were over $5.00. So now we can't afford beef, we have to eat our toast and potatoes with no butter and bacon is the rich mans breakfast meat choice. I guess we will all end up vegetarians and maybe even vegans if this continues. WE used to get our butter at Aldi's for about $2.00 or $2.50 a lb. Now it is over $3 and at Sam's a 4 lb package is $12.00, so it is about the same.

Shoot even the veggies are climbing upwards rapidly I hate these butter prices though I use a lot during the winter baking. Generics tend to have to much water but I'll have to adjust if needed.
I need to go check at my Amish egg farm to see what their butter is running.
I've started using a French butter called. President it's much better than the Irish butter, Amazon gets $5:99 I get two for $5 from my supermarket , and that's not on sale it's regular price, I stock up on it for my freezer in case they find out there not charging enough for it, maybe it's not one of their best sellers , I did have to buy another shaped butter dish for it though .
I eat far too much butter , can't make a sandwich without it , I'd have to quit cold turkey
don't try to quit by yourself, go to butters anonymous!!! Seriously, yesterday it was up again at Aldi's, from $3.29 to $3.49. For those of you who do not use butter, good for you, but there are those of us who are not ready to give it up. A lot of us use olive oil and other oils, but we still like our butter on sandwiches, toast, baked potatoes, baking, pancakes, etc.
