I decided to grill a couple of $10 steaks the other night. Me and the newish gf were prepping the food together, and she had an idea on seasoning the steaks before they went on the grill.
I said ok, and went with what she was doing, as she seems to know what she is doin in the kitchen.
I grilled the steaks like I always do, about 3-5 minutes per side, aiming for about 14 total minutes for the steak, which usually gets me a medium cooked steak.
I checked on the steaks, and after about only 4 mins, they were torched
One was torched so bad, the gf only had a small part of it, and didnt eat much else of it. I ate most of mine, as mine wasnt that much better.
Turns out she put oil on the steak, along with the seasoning.
I havent done that before, as I usually put some seasoning on the steak, slightly tenderize the steak mostly to just imbed the seasoning in the steak so it doesnt all fall off while cooking on the grill.
I never rub oil on steaks before grilling, I just sprinkle both sides with seas salt and black pepper. I have put a pat of butter on top of steak after it's been grilled though.
Nah no need for oil.. seasoning yes, oil no. Problem, I'm sure, was your fire control. It was either too hot a fire or it was left unattended too long. If you want to oil something oil the grill grates/racks.
I never put oil on steaks before I grill them. I just make sure the grill rack is clean and quite hot and I season my steaks with sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper.
No. Seasoning, and grill. A marinade if you're getting fancy.
