Anthony Bourdain's contempt for Paula Deen is legend, but who do YOU choose as TV's worst chef?
Who do you rate the best? Why?
I'll start.
I think Lydia Bastianich is one of the best cooks with an excellent show. She revolutionized the genre as she was the first to really EAT her own food ..and with great relish. Also, her use of the aluminum tong spread like wildfire, to the point where I even saw a TV chef use it for soup!! (That' going too far.)
I liked young Yan (Yan Can Cook) but I think he was a bit of a one trick pony. There is a limit to how much stir-fry and dumplings you can watch being prepared before it becomes like Groundhog Day (the movie).
Best, for entertainment factor - Bourdain, Nigella Lawson, Alton Brown
Best, for recipes that work every time - Sara Moulton, Ina Garten
Worst in general - Sandra Lee (I'm blown away that people need to be told how to doctor up Rice a Roni)
Worst for grating on my nerves - Giada de Laurentiis
Love Tom Colicchio, although he doesn't get to cook much. I also like Alton Brown but only on his show, not on Iron Chef. Can't stand Sandra Lee and her cocktails and tablescapes.
I admittedly watch DDD even though Guy Fieri is an idiot. And I watch Cook's Illustrated just to see Christopher Kimball be a snob.
Anthony Bourdain has a lot of disdain for Paula Deen at times (primarily for unhealthy her food is), but he has complimented her cooking before (her SOUTHERN cooking). Sandra Lee, however, is someone he has said far worse things about and she pretty much deserves them. She's definitely not a chef (not by training nor actions) and she's hardly a cook.
