From browsing around, I can see that this forum seems to contain a lot of "foodies", or types that are big into food. And that's okay, but it is not their craft. I wish to meet the fine gentlemen out there who have dedicated their lives to cooking and have risen to the ranks of executive chef. Tell me about yourself. Background, education, training, influences, where you currently work.

Women are Executive Chefs also.

In most of the industry it's just a title and pay level. An Executive Chef at a Senior Living Facility has the same title as one at the hottest restaurant in NYC.

Saw this coming, not quite as many of them though it seems... definitely a male-dominated profession. And yes, of course, that's why I want to know what kind of place they all work in too. Regardless, I respect any executive chef, as it can be a very stressful job. It is definitely not how it looks on television.

Executive chef is something I never wished to be, although I did have the honor of working with chef Ettore Boiardi decades and decades ago.

I have a good friend whose son is an Executive Chef and has his own kitchen in California. he grew up in the kitchen, always experimenting, gardening, travelling. It was a life calling from an early age. I think most artists are like this. He got formal training in Paris and spent a few years cooking in the Mediterranean. He has been featured in gourmet publications but tries not to be on TV cause he says he wants to be a chef and not a personality. His brother plays a musical instrument in an internationally recognized group. They are both talented artists.

Well, now you've got me curious about BOTH of them! (And Google isn't helping. )

Amen!
I prefered to be Sous Chef, I like to cook more then want to watch. Long hours no weekends off or holidays. It is your life day in and day out. Hopefully you live really close by or can't be reached on your day off.

I like this post. Chefs, truly great chefs, ARE artists, no if's and's or but's.

Our son is a former Executive Chef at the Jersey Shore. After leaving he specialized in cakes and Ice sculptures for the Atlantic City Casinos.

Does it count if I am in Top Chef University?
