My husband and me vacation in daytona Beach every year and we love it! We live here in Pigeon Forge, TN home to Dolly Parton so were used to the tourists. Can anyone please help me on how we can move down there... should we apply online for a job and find an apartment online? Its a long drive for us to go back and forth down there and home. I know it is hard to move outta state- especially so far away but is there an easier route? Any advice is very helpful! thank you for reading and taking the time to reply. God Bless You!!!

Myhusbands family is from East Tennessee and we love Dolly Wood and the Pigeon Forge area. Our kids used to choose going there over going to Walt Disney World when they were little.

People will tell you that Daytona is a good vacation site, but maybe not the best place to live. Of course that is all relevant to what you as an individual are looking for.

What profession are you in in TN? To start off I would read ads in the Daytona paper just to see what kind of jobs are available and who is hiring. Daytona Beach News-Journal Online - Classifieds (http://www.news-journalonline.com/classified/ - broken link)
Unemployment in Florida is still hoovering in the 10-11% area. I don't think TN got hit as badly as Florida. Not really seeing a big improvement in the near future. Still having more and more foreclosures.
Most counties also have a job placement center to help people find jobs,
Try here: One-Stop Employment Division

Employers will want you here to begin on their time not yours most of the time.

I would first do some reading up on this site on the Florida economy so you truly understand how tough things are right now, especially in certain areas of the state. While Daytona hasn't fallen through the floorboards like many Florida towns right now, people are struggling and nervous. Lots of evictions and foreclosures right now for good people -- and it's heart-breaking.

I tell people who are interested in relocating to Florida right now to find a job where you live that has an operation/branch/location etc. nearby where you are looking in Florida that you can TRANSFER to. (It's also important to find out if the Florida office is taking transfers anyway before you start working there too!)

The quality of life and climate are very good here. It's an easy town to get around in and offers many options for excellent excursions in the region (i.e. JAX, St Augustine, Orlando, Melbourne, Gainesville, Ocala, etc.) I love the bicycling, boating, fishing and scenic hiking options the town/area offers. I also enjoy all the Festivals/Events as they are something to do -- but also leave town too for quieter times.

Be careful of opinions about Daytona from people who don't live here! The area has changed positively over the past 4 years -- but many posts I read about Daytona are from when they visited here in Spring Break of '78!

Good luck with your plans! See 'ya soon on the World's Most Famous Beach!
