So I'd guess a place like St Augustine is nicer weather-wise than Orlando...

Where do you think is the best weather in Florida? Least humid I'd say tops the list of what make it the 'best'. Nice breezes help of course.

I know coming from NY/the northeast in general, there are so many micro climates that really make a difference in comfort and temps.

East Coast, Central Florida is where you can pick-up the Gulf-stream breezes and get a lower humidity-to-temperature ratio. Gainsville-North is too cold in the winters and West-Palm-South gets too humid in the summers.

St. Augustine may be just your ticket weather-wise, but coming from NY, you may find the pace and available amenities quite limiting. Melbourne/Beach areas will keep you within an hour of Orlando, while maintaining your climate objectives.

Closer to the water = more humid. The Gulf side is generally more humid than the Atlantic side since the Gulf is generally warmer.

Further inland is marginally less humid than the coast, but it's not any kind of noticeable difference. All of Florida is very humid.

Why is Florida so Humid?

The parts of Florida with the best breezes are also the places with highest humidity = closest to the coast.

Personally I think the Keys probably have the best climate in Florida as it virtually never gets cold there, nor does the summer heat get as extreme as in the northern parts of the state.

BUT in the summer it feels worse in the Keys. Especially these last few years in the summer where in some areas the water temps get up to 92-93 degrees at the surface like it did last summer.

While it might be a couple degrees cooler in the summer the 80 degree dewpoints make it unbearable.

Tallahassee gets hotter but the heat index isn't quite as bad.

Around Daytona the summers are not quite as bad. Why? The water isn't nearly as hot. Usually it's around 81 degrees. That's quite a bit cooler than other parts of the state.

Now in the winter Western north FL in the Panhandle is the coldest area. Places like Crestview can get into the teens.

Winter in the Keys are nice. Key West in the winter probably 70 percent of the time you don't need a jacket in the morning.

West coast is the worst when we are in a west flow bro in the summer. Winds blowing off nasty 90+f water temps makes it feel like a steam bath from hell mel. Lows of 77f to 84f and dew point from 75f to 84f for months and very little rain jane. It is a living hell.
