I've lived all over the country (including in FL previously) but I don't recall any area where there were so many trucks with huge billows of smoke coming out of them, seen on a daily basis. Granted, most of them seem to be construction trucks, and Orange County is chock-full of construction, so maybe it's that. (When we lived in Sarasota I don't recall this level of pollution happening regularly.) Are these smoking trucks actually legal? Are there people out there lobbying to change the emissions testing requirements? I'm not one to go on about how other places have it better than where I am, but this... THIS actually gets to me...

THIS is what gets to you? Lol. What a nice and easy life you have.

It seems you aren't familiar with large diesel trucks.

Florida is a narrow peninsula. Pretty much flat, not many hills and valleys to trap stagnant air.

Sea breezes, and daily storm systems keep our air pretty fresh, although hot and humid. One of Florida's many advantages over most other places.

It simply isn't an issue here.

Now, if you happen to live in a construction zone, your daily, very localized experience may vary. It goes with the territory called.......life.

OP, I have been on this forum for ten years now, and have never heard this complaint. I live in Sarasota, and don't see any excessive truck pollution at all. The only thing I can say is you must be in an area where you don't get "seabreezes" and there is a lot of construction going on. Hopefully it will end for you when construction is done.

Well, it's what surprises me, yeah. Everything else (crime, poverty, weather, monsters, traffic, and so on) I pretty much expected and/or experienced wherever I was, FL not being an exception. What a nice and easy life?

I'm not super familiar with diesel trucks, but er... like I said, I've lived all over the country (and world) and haven't seen as many as here. Maybe in the 80's/90's in Europe. Even the congested NYC area, or out west, didn't have as many smoky vehicles as here.

Because disliking air pollution is Communist. Check.

Right. In Sarasota I didn't notice them at all. Here in the Orlando area, where it seems like there's more construction than not... it's a very different experience.

The air quality itself doesn't seem bad. My daughter has asthma and she does much better down here than in "cleaner" air that is drier and/or colder. OTOH I imagine the smoke goes somewhere, like out over the ocean - it doesn't just disappear into, wait for it, thin air...

Ahh well, the fish don't seem to be objecting. Their air is cleaned by the .... ocean.

Salt air is good for you.
