So, I'm figuring you're not independently wealthy, so what does your SO say about jobs? Are they familiar with the difference in pay scale in Florida? You say a family of 3, daughter or son? Just as an FYI- the Miami area has had mosquitoes that tested positive for zika virus, Zika virus: CDC study estimates 20-fold increase in birth defects | Miami Herald. I'm also going to assume your SO is using the argument that they don't like being hold up in a small Indiana apartment all winter? How do you think they'll feel about being hold up in a small air conditioned Hialeah apartment all summer? What's really driving their desire to move to Florida? Weather, COL, change of scenery? Good luck!

right thats the point. You can't eve get something around here even close to her budget with enough room for 3 people. $950 for an efficiency around here is a stellar price. That'll go crazy fast.

I finally did convince him of the advantages of staying. He plans to do a couple of solo trips a year within the tri-state area and maybe one solo Florida trip for a couple of weeks during the fall or winter. I think it is a fair compromise. He gets to recharge his batteries and take a break from us and the dogs several weeks a year, while I can continue to focus on our son's therapy and schooling. We have a couple of family vacations planned for next summer (like the sand dunes and Indiana Beach).

Have him make the Florida solo trip in August. That might go a long way to convince him.

$2,300 net per-month for a family of 3 will relegate you to living in questionable (at best) circumstances throughout Florida. You'd likely find yourself in BFE, a shady drug-addled trailer park, or some hood-rat wonderland.

Here are my suggestions for places in Florida on your budget. It can be done. Check out North Central Florida. You are just going to have to live in rural areas 30-45 minutes away from the large employment centers like Ocala or Gainesville.

Ocala (Marion County)

$650 month

Citrus County $700 a month

I consider myself fortunate that I am renting a nice 2 bedroom condo in a very good area of Fort Myers for $950 a month. They are going for around $1200 but I've been here since 2013 and the rent started at $800 a month and they only raise me $50 a year.

I don't see how anybody can live in this area on $2300 a month unless they rent a place with a couple of roommates, walk to work and eat a lot of Ramen noodle soup.
