Jacksonville's economy wasn't hit to hard by the recession because there has basically been no growth. Orlando on the other hand had to deal with tremendous grown, and just more people in general.

It's a JOB TRANSFER. Those two cities are THE choices.

Sounds harsh to me. WHY do people assume there's any interest in making Jax like Orlando? UGH.

If Jax were like Orlando I would never live there. And I did live in Jax.

The number of transplants and relocations is huge so this anti-South animosity is ridiculous in terms of actual day to day life. I worked for very few natives when I lived there everyone was a transplant. PLENTY of people drove to Orlando for some event but NEVER just moved there for any reason. Unless they had family there.

I've lived in SOFL, Mid Florida Coastal, and Jax and the people in Jax are SUPER NICE, which cannot be said for MANY MANY MANY other places others flail about. Especially Orlando in your day to day LIFE.

There are trade offs and nobody considering moving here should do so without spending a couple weeks LIVING in each place.

Of course the OP never returned to prioritize or clarify her checklist "fun" and "sports" so...LOL.

Actually that's false. Jacksonville's population increased nearly 14% since 2000, with the statewide average around 17%. Jacksonville's difference from other areas of the state is due to the fact it's growth has been economically sustainable, versus other areas of the state (such as Orlando).

I have been to both cities a lot with my job. I have family in Jacksonville and Orlando and both of them love their city for different reasons. IMO Jax wins hands down because of the lovely parts of the city in Riverside and Avondale walking through those parts of town reminds me so much of Savannah Ga, and perhaps even New Orleans and stuff like that make it easy for me to vote Jacksonville. I love it's skyline as well.

I would say that Orlando has a few lovely spots around its core. But I still think that Jacksonville has Orlando slightly beat when it comes to charming inner neighborhoods.

Jacksonville is deep south Florida. Orlando is a mish mash of the northeast, Midwest and a little bit of Puerto Rico on a substrate of deep South Florida with millions of tourists every year.

.
I lived in Orlando area almost 2 years.( Sanford and Maitland) and worked in Altamonte Springs. North Orlando reminds me of Jax.. I went to the attractions area 2 times to see my brother and his family and a friend and her family who were visiting Disney. People in north Orlando see the attractions as another city in many ways.(although it is right next door)

Those who say Jax is smaller, yes it is. Orlando metro is 2.3 million and Jax metro is 1.5 million. But Orlando because of the attractions and touriats has an inordinate amount of nightlife, hotel rooms, flights etc for a city of 2 million.

The cities are more similar than many would think on the surface
