If we are comparing beaches alone, South Beach (Miami Beach) gets my pick! The ocean is warm, it is blue and it is clear. When I'm in the water I can see my legs, where as in Naples and most other beaches on the Gulf Coast, I can't.

In terms of the city, it comes down to preference. Naples is a small retirement town that is a bit isolated, where Miami is a large city that is near other cities. Miami has a median age of 39 and Naples has a median age of 64.

It's normal to see some homeless people in a large city, but compared to some other cities such as San Francisco, it's a small amount (considering its metro population). There is a big difference also between Miami Beach and Miami. I love the city of Miami Beach, but Miami itself is just okay to me, nothing special. Naples on the other hand is very boring to me.

Miami is a go go go just another city style all those the first 48 episodes are mostly Miami. We don't have those kinds of issues that occur daily over there
Miami may have had smog on certain days, but it does have some of the best air quality in the country.

Miami has the best air quality in the WORLD for a metro of over 5 million people. Is it as clean as Naples? No of course not. But for a city it is far from being dirty. We are talking about beaches here, so air and water matter. The other stuff you mentioned not sure how. Either way homeless situation here is not worse than any other large city and better than places like LA, SF or NYC. As for the first 48. Plenty of cities I would rather not be walking around late. But since Miami Beach and the other barrier islands are where the beaches are those cities are very very safe places.

The clearest water of all the beaches I've been to in FL is on the Emerald Coast (FL Panhandle) from Panama City Beach over to Pensacola Beach..but it's not swimmable year round...I think in the winter the water temp gets into the high 50s...it becomes swimmable (at least to me) in early April (high 60s, if the air temp is in the high 70s/low 80s), and stays swimmable into early Nov...there are more waves up there than there are in say Naples/Ft Myers Beach up to Siesta Key, but not quites as much as on the Atlantic Coast...the sand is super white and super soft...it really looks like snow...and the water is crystal clear...it tends to get deeper closer to shore up there but I've been swimming where it was up to about 15' deep and could see the bottom clearly...Floridas east coast from Daytona Beach northward is not very clear at all, it's brownish color just like it us up in the Carolinas and on up north. Palm Beach on south it seems to be clearer. I'm not sure what that is.

I agree that the Panhandle has beautiful beaches, from what I've seen, as does Siesta Key. I'd love to go there. Although, in wintertime, nowhere in FL has water as warm as in Hawaii. Even Key West is in the low 70sF in winter, whereas Oahu's ocean temps at the same time are nearly 80F!
