We are renting an oceanside home in Ormond Beach, FL, NE coast, as of mid Oct...
we are relocating to FL fr ND and can't wait to start our lives by the sea.

We are curious about growing seasons there and which plants/flowers do well there..
for example..
my hubby wants to plant veggies and tomatoes fr pots... doable in Dec? or do the temps get too cold, we are by the ocean??

re flowering plants.. which ones are hardy??
We can't wait to live in a temperate climate where we can grow and enjoy pretty flowers year round..

would just like to know more about which plants/flowers thrive in that area of FL??
NE FL.. Ormond Beach, Flagler Beach areas??

can someone help?
plse respond w your thoughts.

xo thks

look into the Florida Native Plant Society. They have lots of info in their web site about plants that do well in FL.

They probably have a local chapter in the Daytona area. They have monthly meetings and plant sales and monthly field trips where they show you plants that can handle the tough weather in your area.

also check about a local garden club.

Here is a link to the University of Florida's vegetable gardening guide for Florida. Scroll down to table 3 for the planting time tables. There are different times for the different geographic areas of the state. In Florida we generally have two growing seasons each year, one in spring and one in fall. Most veggies can't survive our summers. Poke around on this website, there is a huge amount of useful information.

SP 103/VH021: Florida Vegetable Gardening Guide

Another great site for planning your garden is www.floridata.com Here is a link to the flowering plants section, they also have sections for trees, shrubs, etc. If you click on a plant it takes you to a page that usually includes some photos and descriptions of habitats plus warnings about invasiveness, etc.
