My wife and I are thinking about moving to Daytona Beach from NE Ohio. What can you tell me about the area and is it a good move?

Search the threads... No it's not a good area. North of it is good, and south of it is good, Daytona, is not. Neither is Cocoa.

I agree. I would look to St Augustine/Palm Coast to the north or Melbourne/Rockledge/Viera to the south. If there's some attraction to Daytona Beach specifically, focus on Port Orange or Ormond Beach.

What are your reasons for picking Daytona specifically? If we know that then maybe we can help you better

Op is probably tired of northern winters and the word beach is sounding mighty attractive for next winter, however there are better communities than Daytona Beach,as said before look north or south of the area.

Well I realize that is the reason for most moves south. Have no worries Jambo, I have given up trying to defend Daytona, I just wanted an idea of what they were looking for. Perhaps they have family in DB but they want quiet older neighbors - Ormond. Maybe they want lots of shopping and restaurants - Port Orange. Maybe they want jobs - Ohio

Actually, northeast Ohio's recent unemployment rate is 6.7 and Daytona's is 8.6. Of course we don't know if they need jobs but moving from there to Daytona looking for jobs would be a bad idea, generally.

I'm not a fan of Daytona, though. Out of all of Florida, that area is one of my least favorite. There is so much that I can find good about the state but really, not there. It's as if time passed it by and a bad element took over.

I hope the OP comes back and tells us more about himself and his wife so we can better help!
