Well, opinions is what this thread is asking for so I guess I'm right on target.

You mentioned out west as a possible. Then may I make a suggestion that you also check the New Mexico forum and in particular the Albuquerque forum. We seem to migrate back and forth between Florida and New Mexico and have been here this go around for 13 yrs.(working on a Navajo Reservation) And it seems to me Abq. would fit your parameters as described. The UNM/ Nob Hill area of Abq. is alive with progressive and old hippies like myself with a vibrant arts scene and plenty to do in both the city and outside the city limits.
However, with that said would strongly suggest a trip out west first and try to line up a job before moving as the job picture here is like most of the country. And, if the beach is a prerequisite then Fla. it is. If not, then open your horizons and look at Abq. or even Tucson, great town as well. Especially the 4th,ave. area(very bohemian).

Thanks for that. Yeah I have another thread open on the West coast/South... No one really played up Albuquerque, so I wondered about it. Though a couple mentioned Sante Fe, as well as Tuscon. I don't really need a beach. Lakes and rivers are actually more of my thing. Will definitely try to line up a job and visit before relocating. Going to try to visit an area of interest this summer.
