How expensive is it to live in Key West? I'm paying 800 dollars a month for a nice 1 bedroom apartment here in Seattle. How much would I have to pay for a 1 bedroom apartment in Key West? 1,000 is the most I would want to spend. Key West seems very expensive to me. Am I wrong?

Key West is expensive. $1000 for a 1 bedroom is not realistic.

Love your username, BTW

I live in Key West but the average 1 bedroom apt is probably about $1500 a month at the least. However, things like electric, water, gas and groceries are all expensive as well. So, you have to factor in those costs as well.

Compared to the rest of the country, it is very expensive here. Thankfully, due to the housing correction, housing prices have fallen to more reasonable levels. The avg. 3 bedroom/ 2 bath house is probably now $200K-$400K compared to over $700K back in 2005. But insurance is very expensive. All new home owners are required to have wind and flood insurance. Property taxes are high too.

We were just there 2 wks. ago, friends of ours are in a lovely 2 bd Condo & pay $1,900 a month which includes utilities. We were looking at one in their complex that was the same as theirs and it is currently up for $2,100 mo. Most people have 2 jobs just to live in KW. It is expensive.

I'll be heading over to join my fiance now I have my visa. We're paying $1500 a month incl utilities for a 1 bed in old town. I'm used to London prices so I'm not too shocked but don't particularly see that as a good thing!

** WARNING **

If you're Cheap or a Miser, please do us all a favor, and stay away from Florida. Instead, I advise Arizona or Southern California.

We have enough Miserly Tightwads in Florida.

Good day to all, and peace.

Key West is expensive, but no more so than some of the more interesting big cities to live in. You just have to remember that like any fun place to live, you pay for location. If you go a couple keys up from Key West itself, prices on rentals drop dramatically, and you will still be in paradise, you just won't be living in a loft over Duval Street.

Yes it is expensive. Like everyone else said it's like 1500 for a 1 bed room apartment. I worked down there in the state parks and lucky I stayed in a park cabin. Your better off checking a couple keys before you get to key west. One more thing, watch out for the chickens lol.
