Hello all,
Just thought I'd share that last night the travel channel had an hour show called "The 10 best Florida Beaches".

I watched it and found it very informative and interesting. I'm sure they will have it on again. I tried to look the TV schedule up on the website, but it did not show. Anyway, just thought I'd tell you that while channel surfing you see it on, it was worth watching.......really made me want to get down there again soon.

I saw it too but forgot most of them. Anyone have the list offhand? I think it went something like...

1. South Beach, Miami Beach
2.
3. Key West
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10. Daytona Beach

Good subject, because all Florida beaches are not alike. Years ago, Sarasota won some kind of international contest for best beach sand. It had competition from South France and other renowned beaches worldwide.

For those that don't know, the beach sand on the east coast (Atlantic) is darker, and more coarse. The sand in the Gulfcoast, is whiter, and a finer grain of sand. Having lived on both coasts, I can certainly appreciate the gulf's sandy beaches. However, the diving was better closer to shore on the east coast (near Ft. Lauderdale all the way up to Boca Raton, was my stomping grounds).

I don't remember all of them........I did not agree with the rating....I did not care which one was #1, etc......but it was interesting to see how different they were...
They said that Sanabel island was the seashell capital of the WORLD. People spent all day picking nice, not broken ones up. Love to do that.

Another beach was like 99% quartz, making it one of the whitest sand beaches anywhere.
Then there were two beaches known for there privacy and romance...nice.

They talked about Panama city being wild during spring break, etc.

I'd watch it again.......

I would totally dissagree with what is stated as Florida's best beaches. My favorites would be:

1. Canaveral National Seashore
2. Ft. Desoto
3. Anastesia Island
4. Navarre Beach
5. Amelia Island

I guess what I meant to say was that I did not totally agree with how they picked #1, etc.......like they picked South Beach as #1 for all the partying.....

I'd rate unblemished beauty and privacy higher then partying. It was amazing how different the beaches were. It will be nice to visit all these places.

Sanibel was #9-best shelling beach
Lovers Key (South of Ft. Myers Beach) was #4-best beach to get away from it all

I think either #5 or #6 was Palm Beach at the Breakers Hotel. They have a great coral reef close to shore. About once a week I go out in my kyak an dive or snorkel there never from the beach though, at 600.00 a night in the summer I'd rather paddle to the reef.
