What's acceptable, aside from the usual suit?
Men and women, but I'm very interested in what's acceptable for women to wear because we tend to have more choices in general when it comes to fashion.
Despite the trend toward business casual in many offices, I believe one should still wear traditional business attire to an office interview (which means a suit and tie for gentlemen, and the equivalent for women). I have never left an interview with a candidate thinking ill of them for dressing too nicely, but I have many times been left with a bad impression from someone who dressed poorly or too casually.
If you are interviewing for a corporate position, navy suit. Otherwise, it depends on the job. For women, I think a professional dress with an appropriate jacket. I really think that you can look in the mirror and tell if you are dressed appropriately. If not, ask a friend to critique what you will be wearing.
I was searching last night and found some good suggestions.
I found a blog that broke it down for women depending on the type of job they were applying for. I wore something almost identical to the first outfit to my interview today (position with a TV station).
