I recently have had the craving for dark nails. Not black or dark blue but like burgundy or dark purple. Sadly, I haven't taken good care of my hands and every time I paint my nails dark I feel bad. Immediately I want to take the polish off. If you are over 40 (or in your late 30s) do you wear dark nail polish? Have you put Retin A or retinol products on your hands and if so what have been your results?
Dark polish on an older woman is perfectly apporopriate. Especially in the color you mentioned-- dark purple or burgundy is very tasteful and appropriate.
It's the light colors no older woman can wear. And by older, I mean older than 16.
Try some olive oil with dead sea salt and neroli oil to scrub up some fresh skin. Add lemon rind to help fade any spotting and discoloring issues. Use a good lotion to keep the hands hydrated. Dry skin always looks older on anyone of any age.
I'm 36 & wear nothing but dark polishes! Pinky pale colors are just to docile for me I have pale pink skin & my hands look pretty good (I'm a skin care addict- sunscreen is very important!) I love the pop of dark colors against my skin tone. Right now I have matte black polish on but I vary from black to blue to plum (another one of my favorites) & I have a teal/peacock blue color that is TDF.
This is a very timely post, as I was going to ask a similar question today!! What would be the classic, classy, color for an over 50 professional whose hands are average & nails are acrylic, rounded tip, shorter length? My style is edgy & my hair style even "edgier" (cropped very short/grey & white), but I am afraid that too dark will be aging. I'm not a fan of the french manicure look, square tips, long nails, stop-sign reds, pastels, or "teen" colors. What's left that will look fashionable & appropriate?
