LONDON (Reuters Life!) – British women are happy nowadays to wear mini-skirts up until the age of 40, according to research by Debenhams department store.

Just 20 years ago, few women would dare to wear a mini-skirt after the age of 33, the store said.

Women staying in mini-skirts for longer: report - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090901/lf_nm_life/us_britain_miniskirts - broken link)

I'm like this, if you are in pretty good shape, workout at least 3 times week or more, (and the legs look good; no "cankles" or anything and your legs are decent) I don't see a problem with a woman over 35 or 40 wearing a mini-skirt.

Cankles is when the calf muscle runs into the ankle area (pretty much means the leg is not toned at all and is fat). Not attractive really. A good indication that the woman is out of shape.

I'm 54 and I could still wear a mini.....but I don't because it's just not acceptable. My legs are my best feature. They are muscular and thin with no cellulite(at least not in the parts that would show). Because of my age, I stick with hemlines an inch or so above the knee. Any longer that that and I look out of proportion because I'm not tall. I also wear heels to balance out the proportions.

In my own backyard and around my pool(gated and fenced), I do wear minis.

At least you are wearing them. Most women won't even wear them around their own backyards!! Keep up the good work!!

If an "older" gal can look really good in shorts then chances are she can pull it off with mini-skirts, too. But not TOO short. If it's too short then, to me, it kills the integrity ("class").

I'm 47 and I still wear them. Of course, I have smashing legs and a really nice ass so it's all good. I get a lot of positive compliments when I wear them. I don't wear them short enough that it's an issue to try to keep things covered when I sit down though

Short skirts above the knee look sexy, but anything too short and the woman looks trashy...

Back in the late '60's ALL fashionable women wore very short skirts regardless of their age. Remember the Duchess of Windsor doing the Fruge in a mini dress? Even Lady Bird Johnson bared her knees for a few years. One of the few older women who refused to wear short skirts was Joan Crawford and she looked ridiculous. The proportion was all wrong.
