Who cares what you wear to Wal-Mart? I see people wearing a swim suit with a cover-up on in there and it's obvious that they are on their way to the beach or lake. (They are usually buying a coolor or drinks or beach towels or something)
Now, if you wear board shorts with no intention of going to the beach/lake/pool that day, then I think it's weird to wear them, especially to school. But to the store - no one knows whether or not you're really on your way to go swimming
You can wear them if you're a poor high school/college student who doesn't have much money for a wardrobe, you get a free pass from the fashion police, so you can wear that for the summer. Please wash them regularly or have a couple pair to trade off wearing.
If you're trying to affect a "carefree" "California/Hawaii" lifestyle (p.s. I have never seen a surfer on a surfboard wearing board shorts - water is too cold in L.A.) and you live anywhere but on the west coast - you're gonna look like a poser.
Board shorts should not be worn if you are over 22, past college age, and not on the beach.
Pst, I would never wear anything that says "Balin", I just chose one that has the same red as mine. Y'all are making me feel bad so I guess board shorts are going to be restricted to Wal-Mart
