When I call my hair salon to make an appointment, there is an answering machine telling me to leave my name and number and a brief message, which I do. The trouble is they don’t call me back. I called another salon and the same thing happened. Anyone else have this happen to them?

They probably don't have a receptionist, and the stylists are busy when you call them. Call back, or see if they have another way to get in touch, like email.

They can't afford or are unable to hire a full-time receptionist.
If you are in their area, I'd pop in and mention that no one ever returns your calls.

When my stylist moved to an independent chair elsewhere, she set up an appointment app via FB. I can make my own appointments there and I get a reminder notice, too.
She moved from a professional high-end salon that had front desk staff.

This. My salon is only "staffed" by the stylists...who are busy with clients; overwhelmed with them these days due to fewer stylists and reduced hours. Mine does better texting, so much as I dislike it I stay in contact with her that way. If you know the salon's business hours try stopping by at the start or end of the day in person when someone is more likely settling the business end of things. Then ask them the best way to keep in touch.

This is a peeve of mine, here in the south. My stylist answers her own cellphone. I would prefer that a receptionist answered the phone when the salon is open, but that is not the case. My stylist is reasonably priced and nice, so I overlook the practices of more swishy salons.

It might be worthwhile to suggest the stylists set up this FB app thing my stylist uses. It's very easy and you get a reminder ping close to your appt date....They could review it at the beginning or end of the day and not be troubled with answering calls while they have clients in chairs.

i don't even bother leaving messages. many salons allow the opportunity to book online. i won't call for bookings unless I'm forced.

My stylist also uses a texting link to communicate and set up appointments and even pay the bill. At first it was a bit strange, but now I’m so used to it and even prefer it. Saves on overhead for these stylists too.

Yes. I was in serious need of a haircut. I called my old salon and left a message. No call back. I called again. Got a recording, and I hung up. I called next day, and got a person who scheduled me in.

I got my haircut this week.
