I say "still" sun tan, because when I was a teenager and early 20's, it was ALL about how tan we could get, how dark we could get, I would be outside from 10 am to the last little bit of sun was still shining at dusk. I only used baby oil and any tan lotion that said "tan accelerator" and sometimes used those aluminum reflector thingys.
I stopped tanning completely at age 35. Didn't want the wrinkles or these black spots on my arms (are they freckles?). Not to mention skin cancer.
I have used the sun glow lotions and they are okay but difficult to spread evenly.
There is a woman at the community pool here that looks about 35, 40 years old, and she is outside tanning EVERY day, for months now, and I am just wondering why... especially with all the sun glow lotions out there.
Isn't having a tan kind of "out"? Around here I don't see many people with tans anymore.
It got me wondering.... do you still sun tan out in the sun on any kind of consistent basis?

Nope. I am in my 40s and am Florida and have the old lady spots on my arms that are not freckles. I have never go out tanning, but just going outside for a little while everyday in FL is enough to give you those spots. My dad is in his 70s and is now getting all the skin cancers removed. He has the ultra fair skin that doesn’t tan, which I did not inherit, but I don’t want the skin cancers! No thanks! Now when I go out walking, I put on sunblock.
Sure. We’re going to the beach tomorrow. We are in our 70s and any damage has already been done. We use sunscreen and stay in the shade, but just enough to avoid sunburn. We cannot avoid the sun where we live, and we are out in the yard a lot.
Nope. The last time I tried was in high school (I graduated in 1968) when I started "laying out" in April and by the end of summer I had a "tan" that approximated a case of jaundice. My pasty Irish skin simply isn't up to the task, and I'm still paying to this day with occasional skin cancers on my back.

Not on purpose. However, I spend ALOT of time outside. I love being outside. I adore swimming. I wear sunblock and I still always have a tan. I think having a tan is indicative of damage, right?
As far as sitting under an umbrella goes, nope. I have an umbrella and I have access to shade, but I'm usually being active outside so it doesn't really help.
The only time I've ever burned was when I went to SW Florida in April. I was slathered in sunblock & zinc and stayed in the shade as much as possible. Egads, that FL sun.
Nope. I hate being hot; hate sweating. Also, I nearly lost a dear friend to melanoma that we're certain was a result of all the tanning she did during our college days.
If by accident I forget to put on sunscreen and I'm out for a couple hours and get sun, it's not a nice, even tan like a 20 year old might get, but more like age spots and freckles darkening
Looks ugly, so I avoid tanning as much as possible and try to always remember to wear sunscreen and a hat if I'm going to be outside for awhile.
Haven’t been to the beach in over a year. We had a reservation for a condo in Destin FL for earlier this year, but it was cancelled due to Covid.
Yes, I lay out in the sun to tan. No I don’t use sun screen, or I rarely do.
I’m a rebel, I guess.
