I think many successful men wear watches that are not flashy. My sons, for example, are very manly military types. They wear watches that can take a beating while they pursue their manly pursuits. I’d sooner look for that than for a man who wears some swishy expensive watch. Bottom line...a mans watch should reflect his actual lifestyle, not an image that isn’t real.
I think they're more fashionable. I generally like the look, but I don't bother with wearing one because it's too much of a hassle for me -- if I don't carry a phone around, I could see myself wearing a watch.

I totally agree with this. I just love seeing a man wearing a watch; there's something very classically masculine about it.
Do you tend to notice when a man is wearing an expensive "luxury" watch that costs thousands rather than hundreds? If so, does it lead you to formulate an impression of that person?
I'm especially interested in opinions on more subdued designs and normal-sized watches rather than large gaudy watches that are designed to attract attention.
(I have my eye on a watch that I find beautiful and would be proud to own, wear, and pass to my son some day, but do not want to draw attention to.)
I'd never notice what watch anyone was wearing. For several years I've worn a watch that I bought at a discount store for $2.00. It works fine and the battery has lasted.
