You have the right to choose a life where you wrench yourself into fitting someone else's idea of beauty (that you've adopted.) There's nothing right or wrong about that. I'm just telling my opinion as a guy who's managed relationships with women who were very happy with me.

Maybe you'd be happier if you stopped listening to fashion magazines and other women about what men like... because in the end, it takes a relationship to be happy and those magazines and your single friends or friends involved in relationships that have little emotional meaning really aren't the people to be taking advice from.

This whole conversation rests on an assumption that plastic sacks stuffed under your skin might make your life better. If you're a stripper or involved with the type of man who's preoccupied with how you look in the ese of his friends? They'll probably get you closer to what you think you want. However, I think they'll take you further away from enduring happiness. In fact, if you're in that sort of relationship or are looking for that sort of relationship, you're going to end up more concerned about what the pool guy thinks of your body than your husband.

I don't know if that's much of a way to live compared to having something meaningful in your life.
LOL, you are hilarious. Is your post directed at me? Or you just talking in general here? By the way, my boobs are naturally large - thank you very much. I'm sure you are one of those types of people that pass me by and "assume" that I've had implants and give me dirty looks.

Anyway, yeah, back when I was 11, those "fashion magazines" really got to me! LOL and my mom and dad's "ideal" of what my teeth should look like really took it's toll I don't know how I would of made it through life without those braces. Dammit, and I didn't wear my retainer like I was suppose to and they are crooked again. Maybe I should go get them again so I can live up to Cosmo's standards.

Not directed at you as an individual; directed toward that whole belief system that could justify implants or compare them to braces.

Actually, when I think someone has implants, I generally don't look at them at all. I feel sorry for them that their life is so empty. I really do think it's tragic.

Your rant about braces makes no sense to me. It's not even on-topic.

I'm sure those girls are not losing any sleep over this. Maybe you should go over and check and make sure they are fake first before you shun and judge, some girls really do have big boobs. Seriously, I'm not joking!!

Talk about someone who goes off on rants on city-data forum! LOL

Well the braces was just one example of a way someone, man or woman, changes their appearance for cosmetic reasons and it was in response to your quote below:

"Learning to accept the things you perceive to be inadequate is part of growing up and building character. A person, IMO, who stands up-- warts and all-- and says "This is who I am. I'm not perfect, but I try the best I can" conveys a beauty that can't be possessed by someone who's polished in the direction of the mainstream's vision of beauty."

I could of used other examples, nose jobs, liposuction, face lifts, butt implants, coloring your hair, getting your nails done, getting a weave in your hair, wearing make-up, having warts removed. These are all done to make one look better. Some, yes are more severe than others, but they are all done for the same outcome, are they not? To acheive one's "vision of beauty" for themself?

Oh, and to stay on topic here, Yankee Girl, hope your surgery was a success.

Im a guy and I never liked women with implants. I say B.S. to any woman who says "I do it for me, not for anyone else". You do it because you want men to find you more attractive and that is the bottom line.

Anyone can just go out and have plastic surgery to look better (breast, nose, teeth, etc.) but all just end up looking fake. I would much prefer a woman with small breasts who is athletic (i.e., tight firm stomach).

You might want to see what I look like before you leap to that conclusion. The reaction is usually sad.

That question was perfectly appropriate. I'm not clear on how your rant about your parents is relevant when it was already covered by my initial post. It's like you so desperately wanted to prove something that you ignored half my post.

If that's why one does it, great. However, what is "for themself" was discussed earlier... and my point all along was just "if that's what you need to do to feel good about yourself, I wouldn't want to be with you."

I don't get where you're coming from. If you want to cry about my opinions-- which is how this started-- then atleast keep them in context.

Why would what you look like make any difference?

Maybe you need to look up the definition of "rant" There is a difference between sarcasm and writing in an angry or violent manner

This is so far from the truth, but.....everyone has their opinions, and I`m glad that everyone is sharing.

Yes, I went from about 17% body fat to about 13% body fat, mostly from lifting weights, I already ate healthy and did cardio. I gained major muscle in my upper and lower body. My husband, a physician, says its common for women who lose body fat to lose it everywhere. Maybe once you go below a certain body fat%.

And for those who say that women only do it for men or for others, thats just ridiculous. I would think as intelligent adults, you would know that blanket statements like that of course are impossible to make. Of course there are some women who do it to make an impression on others, but there are many of us who do it for ourselves. My husband does not care if I do it or not, he is happy either way. But as a supportive husband, he backs me in anything I chose. Ultimately it is a woman's choice and these opinions or judgements will doubtfully affect anyone if thats what they want.
