My second holes closed a long time ago and that's the way they remain. If my other ones close? I'll sell all of my earrings on ebay.
Sometimes I have a hard time getting earrings in, but I have a pair of small stud diamonds that were for my second holes. I can usually get them in with no problems. Sometimes I use an alcohol wipe to clean the earrings and around the holes front and back. It helps the earring slide in easier. I might sleep in them occasionally. I can get anything in the holes after that.
I've never had mine pierced; does that count? Even as a kid, I thought it was creepy. But I know I'm in the vast minority, LOL. FWIW, no guy has ever seemed to notice.
I wear pierced earrings every day. In fact, I had a " back up" pair at work in case I rushed out the house in the AM and forgot to put them in. I always wear wires and almost never wear posts.
A while back I was having a devil of a time putting my earrings in--I couldn't hit the back hole to save my life. I wound up lubricating an old pair of posts with triple antibiotic ointment, and putting the earring back to front to get it through. By then my ears were pretty sore. Once I got the earrings in properly, I decided it would be prudent to wear the posts 24/7 until my ears healed up. I kept lubricating the posts with ointment until my ears were no longer sore. That pretty much did the trick.
BTW...I had my ears pierce the old fashion way--back in college by a nursing student in my sorority. Nothing a several shots of vodka couldn't get me though

Most people who have jewelry allergies are allergic to the metal nickel. Surgical steel doesn't have nickel in it, so allergies are rare.
I've pierced each ear three times. Two of the holes I use all the time, they stay open. Three holes have disappeared. The sixth hole is still there, but doesn't like it when I put an earring in. But I still try it every year or so.
My ears were pierced by a doctor almost 50 years ago. I haven't worn earrings very often for the last 15 to 20 years but the holes were still there. About every three to eight months I would put earrings on again. for the last five years, usually I would have someone help me as they did not always go through very well. On one ear, for many years, I would need to put the earring through the back first as the front & back did not easily "line up" but then I could put on the earrings the regular way. About six months ago the person helping me really couldn't get the earrings through my ears.
What do I do? I went to one of those piercing places (the type that just sells pierced earrings) at the mall & they said that they could re-pierce my ears (starting at the same hole in the front) with those earrings that have a sharp point on the ends. They said that the old holes would "just close up". Well if they didn't close up for the last 15 to 20 years why would they close up now? What if after the six week healing process I put on my earrings and open up the old hole again? Or won't that happen?
Has anyone ever had your ears re-pierced? What was your experience? Thank you.
I would find a professional piercer instead of going to one of those mall kiosks. Some of them work in tandem with tattoo shops.
This is good to know! I hadn't worn earrings for the past year. When I went to put earrings in, I couldn't get them through one year. I tried a number of times. I was wondering how re-piercing would work, since I already had a hole there. So this is good to know.
I was finally able to get the earring through, by pushing through the back. Thank goodness. I'm never going to go w/o earrings again!
I have that problem, with the third piercing on my right ear. I think (because I, too, went to one of the mall kiosks!) that when the piercing was done the post went in crooked, but at any rate it can be a pain to get a post in if I haven't worn earrings in a while. I'm trying to wear them at least once a week.
I've used ice to numb my ear lobe so I could "punch through" because it seems the hole closes slightly on the backside of the lobe. None of the other holes (6 total, 3 on each lobe) do that.
I went to a nearby tattoo parlor/piercing salon and they were so nice! They only sell "surgical steel" or titanium earrings because they are considered "body implants" and the law requires them to be "surgical grade". Hmmm, so why do the mall piercing places push the gold earrings? Why are they allowed to sell "non-surgical grade" earrings if they do piercings?
The piercer was so meticulously clean and thorough about everything. She tried to get the earrings in and said that the actual holes were completely open except for the very, very back. And I should come back in few days (as my ears may have been slightly irritated because she was trying to poke the earrings through) and she would put a needle through the same hole and out the back. Since, the only new "cut" would be minuscule she said that it would heal quite fast.
Update. I went back to the same piercing salon/tattoo parlor and a licensed piercer re-pierced my ears. She used a needle and it barely hurt at all (since it was just the very back that had closed up). Even though the tattoo parlor was sort of creepy, clean but Halloween scary decoration kind of creepy, IMHO, I am glad that I went there instead to a kiosk at the mall.
