Sex sells. Sales drive a company. When in doubt refer to first sentence in this post.

Attention to brand, to sell the newest seasons clothes to people (highly rich, celebrities, etc buy the clothes you see in the fashion shows), show off their models (they do work hard for their bodies), etc.

I caught part of the show. I never watch it but to my surprise it didn't make me feel bad about my look. Instead the comment from models on how hard they workout & their gym experience motivated me to get my butt moving. It sort of reminded me of Americas Next Top Model where you see the work going on behind modeling & that not all models are alike.

I agree with OP tho, I never see those products models are walking around in store. They are not selling them

CBS has airtime. They need programming so that they can sell time to advertisers. Enter the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. It has half-naked women, so that attracts men. It is tangentially fashion-related, so women watch. It has popular artists performing, which draws people. That's it. There's no "reason," for example, to show the red carpet part of awards shows, except people apparently watch it in droves. The networks will put on anything that will capture eyeballs.
No. Victoria's Secret's sole purpose is to "define" American sex appeal and beauty for the mass market. This fashion show is one of those venues.

The Super Bowl halftime show is also a branding exercise. If it wasn't they'd cut to the announcers to recap the game like all other games.

As much as it is a branding event it has turned into simply an annual entertainment event. It could literally be called "Something to Watch - Brought to You by Victoria Secret"

Branding/entertainment, just like most things. It's a fun way to advertise their product

Meh, there's the internet now, why a need for a prime time show with commercials?

This is not the answer.

You could ask this question of every TV show, movie, or ad with nudity or explicit content. The point isn't that you can't it elsewhere; the point is that arousal still works--doesn't have to be blatant or extreme. And the fact that it IS primetime TV, and not the dark recess of the Internet, is added titillation for some people. Why does Starbucks open a store when there's another Starbucks store less than a mile away? Because there's still enough interest that people will come!
