Today I stopped at the seamstress to get some alterations on my holiday party dress and a blouse I recently purchased.

The dress is semi-sleeveless and the sleeves were too big and were slipping off my shoulders. The rest of the dress fit well and fell in the right places. Shrinking the sleeves would keep it situated in the right place.

The blouse is tunics-y, but was cut too low. It had a slight wrap top, so could be easily stitched up to not be too revealing.

I end up getting things altered a few times a year. Mostly dresses, since I think they are more important to get the fit right, and small tweaks make a huge difference. Pants don't bother me if they don't fit perfect. I pretty much only have leggings and jeans...

Do you get stuff altered? How often?

Only suits, and those only for weddings and funerals since work attire has gone to business casual.

Only formal wear.

For everyday clothing, I don't buy anything that would be cost-effective to have tailored to me. Ready-to-wear makes the most sense at my day-to-day price point. I seldom dress up in anything that's more than casual.

I have, but not recently. I can rehem things myself. I don't want to pull a bodice apart and resew though.

The last thing I had altered was the dress I wore to my son's wedding. It wasn't a particularly nice dress, but it was the right sort and the right color. So I bought it and took to the seamstress who agreed with me that it must fit perfectly.

It was worth it to me for that occasion.

This

I don't go out of my way to find clothing that needs hemming or other alterations but if I find what I want and it needs to be altered then I am grateful that I have the skills to take care of it.

As much as I love sewing...I have on occasion allowed the tailor to mend. Particularly since I do not have the proper machine for some of the materials.

My leather vest being one of them.

I wear a 28" inseam in Wrangler blue jeans or they're too long. Even with so-called 29" inseams they still have to cut off 2" of the leg. Luckily I have a place to take them that alters blue jeans. Not all places do it.

Always! I gave up sewing in any form. Good riddance. My seamstress is fantastic. (She's also a biker! LOL.) She even sews things for my classroom.

If left up to me I would use tape or a stapler. I MAY have a travel sewing kit somewhere, but I do not care to find it.

This after a lifetime of sewing: making my own clothes, costumes for dancers and even bridesmaids dresses. I can't stand the fine motor detail required anymore. It makes me 'antsy'. I gave away my last sewing machine after only one use. I'm done. (I WILL use a Buttoneer, though.)

Love my seamstress!
