That's a shame. Do you ever have a go at altering them yourself, by hand?

I never buy anything I need altered. The only item I EVER had altered was my wedding dress and that was 15 years ago!

I'm so short I have to have petites hemmed, but I can do it myself. I took a suede coat to the tailor to have the sleeves shortened. And I find that the cheaper clothes are, the worse they fit and most are definitely not worth the investment of alteration. The tailor I went to used to say please, never buy cheap clothes. Too true. My husband and I have several times passed shirts down. He would pay a lot for a top and wear it until it frayed and then I would alter it to fit me and wear it for more years until it frayed. Between us, we've kept some things going for decades. But decades ago you could get good things at affordable prices. No more.

I voted not until tailored but that is for dress wear, especially suits and some dress pants.

Lol! I've actually done that, too. Tape and/or safety pins.

I'm 5'4. Petite length is a little too short for me; regular length is too long. I used to hem my pants quite a bit, but then I just gave up on it. I would either just cuff my jeans or wear higher heels. lol But I recently took some to a dry cleaners who make alterations, and they came out perfect.

I am a professional seamstress, and it DOES come in quite handy. I am also short-5'2", tend to run in the off sizes, and about 35 lbs overweight. So...nothing...fits me right.

I try my best not to buy clothes that need to be altered. It ends up costing way too much and I really rough with my stuff. Alterations in my city are crazy expensive. I have only don this for bridesmaids dressed. It cost $50 to $100 to adjust each dress... so I ended paying around $300-$350 for ugly ridiculous dresses I would never wear in a millions years if given a choice. I would love to experiment with this though... but would try and do the adjustments myself. I only know basic sewing ( ex I ripe it ... I can sew it back together.

What a great skill to have. I think less and less people are learning these skills, which is unfortunate because quality fashion pieces take skill to craft.

A good deal of my pants need to be hemmed. When I find petite pants great, but often I find pants I like but are too long.

Not sure why clothing makers think we are all 6 ft tall.

I did find a $25 jacket thrifting I really liked. Sleeves are too long but not crazy long. It doesn't bother me too much so I just roll up.

I like Nordstrom for suits - because they come on call and take care of it right then. I will shorten my sleeves and whatnot. Shoulders can be an issue.

I never really knew people did that If the clothes don't fit me right, I typically don't buy them. I have made a few minor alterations to dresses I've bought-- minor things like tightening arm holes on a sleeveless dress.
