Unless it is a baseball cap for an outdoor/sporting type event, I'm not big on hats on men. I don't hate them, but they should come off whenever you go indoors. I guess a fedora, or if summery weather, a straw fedora-type hat would be ok at an outdoor event.

What I care most about is cleanliness. Does it look like he made the effort to put on a clean shirt and tuck it in? And I loathe the cartoon character ties. They might be cute or funny, but basically they scream, "Please don't make me be a grown up!"

I loooooooooooooooooooove a closely-fitted (not tight) button-down shirt in a color, not tucked in, plus nice jeans.

OMG.

I don't care what he has on his feet. He has feet??? If he has a cute body and a close-fitting nice shirt I will never notice his feet. Well, unless they're disgusting old shoes with holes or something.

Thanks for your responses.
It depends on the date, right? Not sure what you're getting at, OP. For a beach date, shorts would be fine, even cut-offs. A dinner date? Well, that would depend on the class of restaurant, right? I think it's silly to worry about being trendy. Be neat, clean, and appropriate to the occasion/venue. That's all.

I'm a guy, but it shouldn't be rocket science for an adult guy to figure out what's appropriate to wear on a date, depending on the venue and/or occasion. (Unless the date is in some really unusual place that he's never been before...but even then, a bit of Googling will help.) And of course, be clean, wear proper fitting clothes, put in a bit of effort without going overboard.

This is (or at least should be) common sense. Even accounting for one's personal tastes.

I'm with you! It must be the middle age. I don't care as much how the guy dresses as long as he has a nice body and face. LOL *Screams!

I would like that as well -though not a fan of plaid. Though I think I would prefer smooth casual dress-pants than jeans.

Overall, I think it would be nice is more men dressed up. Not a tux or a business suit. But a nice button shirt, with some nice pants and shoes.

NOW, of course everyone should wear what they want. And I don't look down on anyone's fashion. They like it. But far as a date and/or SO, I would prefer someone who made more effort and was a bit dressier rather than the sagging pants, faded jeans, or huge T-shirts, constant sneakers, and flip-flops. Or pajamas.

Obviously depends on where you're going though. For example, the attire I mentioned shouldn't be worn to the beach. lol

Depends on the date, and also what he is comfortable in. As long as it looks nice on him it's fine, just no holey shirts/pants and hats inside. A dressed up guy is nice but not always practical and if they aren't comfortable in it then it could distract them.

Depends on where we're going. I wouldn't expect a collared shirt if our date was for a hike, a trip to the beach, etc.

I would hope he would shave, brush his teeth and put on deodorant.

Taste differs and each person is different but I agree that it's better to dress up than dress down. As a woman, I will always appreciate a bit of extra effort (and I'm sure it goes the other way round too).
