The muu-muu (moo-moo) is back?!

You should just opt to wear a tent. In essence, that is what it is.

I have dresses I wear around the house - little cotton jersey numbers for when it's hot. When I googled "housedress" I got so many options, and none of them resembled those dresses I have, though some of them were quite cute. But some of them were ghastly.

Because I work from home and have abandoned the concept of dating and spend a lot of time with my 3 dogs, when it's not 90 degrees, I almost exclusively wear fitted jeans and fitted plain black or gray t-shirts, with flannels in winter.

So help us out and post a link, please

The TV poster child for the house dress was Miss Ellie, the matriarch of the Ewing clan on Dallas. At least that's who immediately comes to mind when someone mentions "housedresses". During that awful season where Donna Reed replaced Barbara Bel Geddes in the role, DR's Ellie was usually seen around the ranch in fancier, designer dresses and jewelry, which was part of the reason people didn't take to the recast. When BBG returned, so did the housedresses.
It was like JR without his 10-gallon hat.

I thought those were posted by someone else. I was hoping the OP would post links of the type of housedress she actually wears. I was seeing a lot of variety.

They all seem to be the "take me out back and shoot me" variety

Didn't Lucy and Ethel wear house dresses?

I still think of house dresses as what women wore in the 50s/60s. Although I could see someone today calling the outfit they always wear at home as being their house dress even though for some, and the style of that dress would vary greatly.

This website has some really nice dresses for lounging around the house, for those who care how they look in a house dress: LotusTraders Clothing - Misses and Plus Size Fashion I had a couple of their dresses that I wore around the house (they have sizes up to a 5x) and I felt like I could go outside in those, because they weren't at all sheer, and had enough fabric to be modest. They had pockets too. They also have stuff that works for Renaissance faires.

I am sure they are comfortable, but why?

I don't like clothes that are "forgiving". They make gaining weight that much easier.

I also believe in how you dress will transpire to how you feel.

They also look darned cold. Even if you keep your house warm, dont you ever go outside this time of year? Do you change when you go out to get the mail? I cant imagine wearing a coat on top of that mess...
