Hmmm. Our days and nights are getting colder. Wearing a "house dress" would mean a cold draft up my legs/rear when going out on the back deck to get firewood to put in our wood stove. No thanks.
Why do people get so hyped about the whole "dress" thing anyway? Some dresses are just as ratty looking as jeans.

For me they are jeans, nice shirt, shoes or dress slacks, dress, skirt depending on the occasion. Important because I will not wear capris or teeshirts in public.

I guess it must depend on the area of the country you are in, and if you are in the city or in a more rural environment?
I wear t-shirts and faded blue jeans *all the time*. Church, errands, out with girl friends, the neighborhood HOA meeting. Standard attire in this area.
Today I am going to a medical appointment in a rather upscale city some distance from here; I will wear a Columbia rain jacket instead of the hoodie that I normally wear every other place. But other than that, I won't dress any differently.
If I wore a skirt in my town, I'd be totally out of place. Which is fine with me. I am just not a "dress" type of person. Probably comes from being forced to wear them when I was a kid.
I wear dresses a lot at home, but I wouldn't call them house dresses. My dresses are usually knit and aren't tailored so they're super comfortable, but they still have structure and there isn't a wild hibiscus print or plastic zipper pull in sight. I suppose what I wear is more like a comfortable, jersey maxi dress.
My late grandmother who was very obese used to wear them
Aside from that I don't know anyone who does...they're certainly not the most attractive of looks. There are so many things that are comfortable around the house that look better...yoga clothes, fitted tracksuits, leggings and tunics, t-shirt or sundresses etc...heck I think even oversized sweats are more attractive. Personally I associate housedresses with very large women that have trouble moving around or putting on pants due to their size

You must not know what a house dress is, if you are wearing them to work....
