I think more than having healthy hair, a good attitude attracts plenty of female attention. Just make sure its well cut and stuff. As for me, I ask the haircut guy @ great clips for a 5. It turns out like this, if they do it right:
Buzz cuts are popular because 50% of guys are balding. Even the sharpest haircut looks bad with a bald spot, receding hairline or big widow's peak.
I don't know about 50%....
Anyway, a buzz cut says one of two things to me: 1. "Women think Vin Diesel (or whoever) is hot, so I'm going to shave my head like Vin Diesel" (even if it looks terrible) or 2. "I have no idea how to style my hair and I'm not going to make the effort to learn."
I can't really point the hairstyles out because it depends on the guy, but definitely NOT super short. And not super long. I like when it's a bit shaggy but should look clean and groomed.
Too bad so many men don't care about their hair. I have always found men's hair to be a huge turn on when it's done attractively. (Women are visual, trust me.)

To me, it also says, "I'm in the military."
I'm glad my husband doesn't go that route, but many of his sailors do. Def. NOT my taste.

I also think the more masculine the man, the more hair he can/should wear. Very virile. Long hair on the head + clean-shaven is one of my favorite looks. But the hair should be tied back, preferably with leather.
I think the more androgynous or softer the guy, the shorter the hair should be.
One look that I really, really dislike is the bald head + big bushy beard. Oh, yuck.
