You know, string bikinis for infants and toddlers actually bothers me a lot less than the same kind of suit for pre-teens for some reason. When I was little I don't think I ever even wore clothes to the beach. There's picture after picture of my brother and me, naked as jaybirds at that age. But as for marketing THONGS and padded bras for pre-teen girls. Dear God, don't even get me started. I'm not a parent yet, but this is part of the reason my boyfriend and I want to leave the US. There's a real pervasive sickness in our marketing tactics that really makes me ill.
That is .. strange.. I remember when I used to live in Europe. Most 9 year olds used to run around naked including girls. Because kids do not know sexual impules at that age.
But in today's society it is completely different, especially in america.
I wore a bikini when I was a toddler. Its not like this is new. I don't think it is really that big of a deal. Its only a big deal if people sexualize it. Its not like it is being marketed because they want toddlers to be sex symbols. It is really nothing to get upset about.
Leaving the US won't help. Europe, for example makes the US look like a country full of prudes.

LOL toddlers as sex symbols? That is the funniest thing i read all day.. LMFAO I think that is what they are trying to do.
But Europe is a lot more open about sexuality. All though in America it is more perverted.
Europe is more "mature" about sex in the most regards.
It just depends the way sex is taught in different countries.

This is precisely what I meant, but you summed it up better than I did. In the US, our notions about sexuality do tend to be quite adolescent and often perverse, as you said. It's a shame, and it makes me wonder how one is suposed to raise a child (boy or girl) with the proper respect and appreciation for normal, healthy sexuality.
all i know is that with all the sexual predators/pedophiles out there it would not be wise to dress your toddler in a string bikini. asking for trouble!
I'm wondering how long the outfit would stay on the toddler anyway. Some of them can squirm out of clothes quickly enough.
And I'm thinking of a white crocheted garment. Crocheted--doesn't that mean yarn? Wet yarn....no, I'm not thinking that is a good thing, lol. Sounds like it would fall off on its own if it got wet, weighted down. Not a practical idea, and certainly not comfortable for the child.
