A lot of people order from miniinthebox.com and it seems to get decent reviews. I order all of my pieces from Amazon and the hats and products I'v gotten so far have been great quality and very cheap. They have this brand "Muisol" on Amazon which makes very cute, trendy dresses for decent prices.
Downside is that you will wait like a month to receive your items. I ordered 3 slouchy hats for about $1 each and I love them! Great quality.
I also like Amazon because you can read the reviews of the items and see how they fit, timing, etc.
There's not such thing as good quality Chinese product (be it clothes or whatever).
I also follow the principle "I am too poor to buy inexpensive stuff". Meaning that inexpensive stuff will break (discolour, rip in the case of clothes) and I'll have to buy a replacement in 2 months. Therefore I buy expensive stuff that last years and years.
I heard taobao (a Chinese online market) has more revenue than ebay and amazon combined. This company also purchased Yahoo! (China).
It should be pretty safe too, because their network security is better (I recall the transaction will fail if you do something slightly wrong, or you use another IP than usual etc.).
It does work from the US. It's huge. My in-laws use it frequently, which is why I'm familiar. It's probably just as safe as any other major website in the US. I have to go through the translator for it, which makes it sort of legible, so I've never done any transactions.
You might want to check out yesstyle.com. The quality looks similar to what you get in American clothing stores. I have never bought anything there but it seems good enough to try out. Given 70 % by BizRate which is reasonable. They also have really cute clothes for women.
