Mine is 17 years old, mostly black with shading, some red and little bit of yellow and I'd love to get rid of it!
Was wondering what people's experiences have been.

I've never had one removed. I've had one I never quite liked (liked the idea, not the execution) tattooed over.

I'm absolutely confident that a cover-up tattoo is less painful than laser removal.

Laser removal can also leave a scar.

I had a friend get a tattoo on her nether regions removed and she said it was the single most painful thing she ever had to go through.

I'm going to go with meh_whatever above me and ask if you can't just get it covered up by a decent artist?

Covering up can also lead to a scar. Never had it done. But it does not look comfy. They have to burn off all the skin with the ink in it...ahhhcheewahwah. That has to hurt.

And then there is the old salt removal method. Omg...brutal.

Any tattoo can make a scar depending on technique, and skin reactions. It doesn't even need to be a cover one. People with a lot of tattoos usually have a raised line somewhere. That is a scar with ink in it.

I too have had a friend have a tattoo removed.
Do not do it. It is 10 times worse than getting the tattoo in the first place.

They go over your tattoo with lasers and it makes the black ink lighter, turning it goldish.

then you wait a few weeks and do it again, and it gets lighter. and so on, and so on....

You have to do several sessions for it to go away, but trust me, when I tell you. Your skin is not going to be like you just erased it from the page....there will be traces left.

i would add to what ever i had to make it look better, but I would not have it removed.

A friend had her ankle tat removed. Very painful but they gave her a topical cream for pain. It took many sessions but she is happy now. Just like getting a tat, when removing one find the best person to do it, not the best price.

Eh. I was picturing horrid disfigurement.

I like raised lines on tattoos. Adds to the beauty of some of them.

Mine don't have raised lines in them, but my artist is exceptional. And I pay for it.
